Any Vacuum controlled distributor in a 305 or 350 will work from 1978-1981 (i believe earlier than 78 as well, but that's 78 is for sure).
This swap is impossible to remain emissions legal, so I take it that does not concern you. Emissions legal is to keep the computer (all Original Equipment).
I went ahead and got a Holley (p/n 0-80457S) from Summit. Had it to my house in 2 days, excellent service, i highly recommend using them. This is an electric choke carb, and you just hook it up by either butt connecting the current choke line or soldering it to the wire included in the kit.
There are 3 connectors to the carb. 1 big one for power brakes, 1 small one for ignition advance, and 1 mid sized in front bottom of carb to use for what you want. I just plugged mine off. PCV can just be run to front of intake manifold.
This is definently a swap worth doing! It really woke up my 305, probably due to the fact my Quadrabog was dying, and getting stuck at WOT ocassionaly.
It's really an easy swap, 2 days at most, for mainly small parts runs. BLOCK OFF THE EGR and HEAT RISE on your intake, or you will have a huge vacuum leak! Can't run EGR with powerbrakes, the valve gets in the way of the line (heads up!).
Good luck

You didn't say why you are removing the computer controlled equipment.
Why are you removing the computer controlled equipment?
Do you have the EGR or non-EGR Performer? What tranny do you have? Doesn't make a lot of difference, but would be good to know.
Personally, I'm a q-jet fan. The Edelbrock Q-jet 1904 has the electric choke and proper linkage. It's a bit pricey compared to Edelbrock Performers or Holleys, but is very adaptable. You can use it on your mild 305, and keep it if you get that 406 you've been dreaming about with minor tuning. I've had q-jets on everything from 283 to my current 396 - they'll handle them all.
For the ignition, stay with electronic (just to be sure you're not considering a points distributor). A stock HEI should have module and coil upgrades. Adjustable vacuum advance is nice, especially if you don't have EGR. Aftermarket units like Accel or Pertronix will already have the good stuff.
If it's not too late, you really don't have to eliminate the ECM. The CC parts will do just fine with your setup, especially for a daily driver.

Technically not emissions legal, but depending on the testing you can still get away with it. As far as a visual inspection, they only look for a cat and check your gas cap here in Atlanta. And with some minor tuning i can pass the dyno sniffer test.
