choke probs

I have a rebuilt carb with an electric choke. When I connect the wire to the choke, the light comes on, but the choke doesn't work. I have used at least three different choke thermostats and have had the same results. I have also tried adjusting it several times. Starting the cars takes several pumps and a flip of the A/C switch.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx.

Have you checked the C-H fuse yet? There's also a relay for this that can go bad, in some cases.
