You really need to give more information, such as engine size, modifications performed (cam, heads, exhaust, etc.), and intended use. You also don't say why you want a new carb.

Assuming you're talking about a basically stock 305 that otherwise runs well, you don't need a new carb. It won't be money well-spent if you're looking for performance increase.

As for your list, some clarification is required. Holley doesn't make a quadrajet, although they do rebuild Rochesters and put them in their box. They do make a spreadbore vacuum secondary 650 cfm carb, but they don't call it a q-jet. Edelbrock makes new q-jets, but they are not for computer controlled cars. You'll need a vacuum/mechanical advance distributor, and a straight vacuum (not CC) EGR valve for either of those carbs.

As for "regular carb", I assume you mean a squarebore Holley or Edelbrock. You'll need an adapter to mount it to your stock manifold, which will raise your aircleaner and probably interfer with the hood. I've never had good experience with adapters, although theoretically they should work on an unmodified 305. But, you'll need the above mentioned distributor and EGR valve. Vacuum ports shouldn't be a problem, although you may not be able to hook up the charcoal canister to the float bowl (minor issue).

If you live in an emissions inspection area, give up on the above choices. Your only option is a computer controlled q-jet.

Hmm, and the topic is called Which carb should i buy for my 305?

If everything is relatively stock ( i can only assume it is) A 600 CFM carb should do fine. I personally like Holley carbs, but brand choice is up to you.

well i have rite now 8.8 wires, accel super coil, accel distriburator hei i belive it is, 2.5 in exuast, goin into a 80 series flowmaster, im buyin a elderbrock polished rpm performer or a polished rpm performer air gap,im still deciding on them 2 manifolds, as for the car im plannin to make it into performance, in the near future i will be putting on a set of heads, cam, lifters, and headers. sorry if i didnt put al this info in my first post, i didnt realize u guys needed it. i got my new summit catalog and on page 8 theres a holly street avenger carb,570,670, and 750 i belive, it looks just like a q-jet exept it dont have a choke for the 2 barrels for the back, its simaler because of the vacum's,lines, etc etc.

If you are going with the Performer RPM or Air Gap I would be cautios of hood clearnace. I know you can get the RPM to fit w/ a drop base cleaner but I doubt the air gap will fit.
I think the Street Avengers look nice but I don't see how different they are from the regular carbs that Holley offers. I would say go for a regular 4150 or 4160.

Will you clear a stock hood with an Edelbrock Performer Intake, and a Holley 1850 carb?

Hi, sorry it took me so long to respond, since the server's been down. Let's see I'm in the West End, shoot me an email, and we can show off each other's cars perhaps?
