No can do, sorry. I have a bad feeling the 396 is about to crap out on me, I think I broke a ring. I'm not even driving it right now. I'm looking for a replacement engine as we speak. I have a 350 that needs valve guides and a cam swap or I found a running 500 cad like the one in my pickup. The 500 would need a top to bottom rebuild though. Have to see what the wife has to say about letting me borrow the checkbook.

What do you mean old??? Just cuz I bought my thirdgen new?
And I'll only agree with you that my car is the coolest ONCE I get the 502 installed. It's real nice now, but definitely not the coolest!

It is my understanding that the Caddy block (along with the BOP big blocks) were wider than the Chevy blocks, and therefore won't clear several major components in a thirdgen engine compartment, specifically the steering shaft and heater core assembly, not to mention that it would be even tougher to keep your wiper motor, if not impossible. I've never checked the dimensions personally, but that is what I've heard here on thirdgen in the past. Also you would need a transmission with the Cadilliac bolt pattern (same as BOP???). Just some things to consider.
I have a 440 horse 502 sitting in my parents garage, but still need to buy my T-56 tranny and clutch parts, and a Davis radiator. Not going to pull my car apart until I have everything in place to do the swap. Hopefully I'll have everything to do the swap this coming winter, but if not I have all the time in the world. I am also doing a concours restoration on a '68 Hurst/Olds, and my daily driver is a '67 442, so I get spread a bit thin financially at times between all the cars.

The caddy block isn't that much wider,it's within an inch. I've got one in my 77 P/U right now. Fits like a glove. I have a friend who is a industrial fabricator by trade and happens to own his own welding shop. Most mods to fit the engine can be done without breaking a sweat. No prob since there won't be any major ones. Remember I already have a 450 hp 396 in it now. The cad does use a BOP pattern trans, a BOP th475 is the same as a chev th400 so all I need is a crossmember/torque arm mount and driveshaft for the 400.
Having one and doing alot of reading I've come to believe that the 500 cad could be built to out power any GM 502 once the valvetrain stability probs are cured. The cad has a bore and stroke of 4.30 and 4.304 respectivly. A high nickle block (like 15 to 20%). And once ported The heads will flow just as well as LS6 rect. port heads with a port job on those as well. The major concern with a cad is the spinning one above 5000 rpm. I've been talking to my machinist about putting BBC screw in studs and rockers to eliminate that issue.
If you can't tell I've been playing with hot rods a little longer than most guys my age.

Woody, it sounds like your in.
Well it's offical, the 396 is toast. I did break a ring but I caught it quick enough that I might be able to save the block. I am currently accepting memorial donations, contact me for deposit information.

this looks like as good a place as any to introduce myself..44 and current owner of a 86 sport coupe,,former owner of a 69' RS. Just bought the 86 for 800 bucks ,needs some work, the former owner swapped in a 40K mile 305 from a Monte Carlo but never finished it and it has no exhaust past the manifolds.
It has a B&M shifter that needs adjusting but runs strong and doesn't burn any oil.
I am a chevy nut,,own a 42 truck,77 shorty van,88 ext cab 4x4 and my dog is named chevy as well as the Camaro.
This looks like a great forum to help in the 86 project, glad I found it.
