Scam all the way. Much like the Dear Mr. SoandSo, I'm representating a kajillionaire in Timbuktu whose family has recently deaded, and we have lined you as a kin.... The first one was funny, the 100th decidedly less so. These scams work because as P.T. Barnum reputedly said, "There's a sucker born every minute."

I've never responded to these scams, but what happens if someone receives one of these "cheques" and when it clears, just withdraw the amount in cash? Is that possible to scam the scammers?

i think im trying to be played too

first email:
Hi,
intrstd in d above item.Let me knw d cost & prsnt condition & a pic of it will be apprciatd.Mode of paymnt 'll be by cahsier's check. Thanks and located in canada.
hear frm u soon.ali

I had to take some aleve after reading that, but I know how some people are.

And this shows up today:
Good to hear from you and thanks for the mail.My client who said he's interested in your ITEM has promised to be buying it and will be issuing a certified cashier's check of $3,000 and you deduct the amount of your ITEM which is $181.21 after which you will send the difference via westernunion money transfer to my P.A here to settle our shipper to book us for their cargo, come over to your place to pick the ITEM up and get it transported.
To bring to your attention,It only takes (24HRS) for a certified cashier's check to get cash in the US,so i will like you to get the check cashed the same day it's presented on the counter and i will also like to know if i can count on you to send the difference of the money to my P.A as soon as the check get to you and verified. To make things fast and convenient for the both of us,i will like you to give me the exact name you want o n the check.....Your mailing address....(Street,City,State and zip code) and your Phone # so i can forward it to my associate and he could start with the procurement of the check.
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon,
Regard's

Most of this cr_p comes out of Nigeria. Just like spammers, costs little to send a million spam mails and 100 hits turns a profit.
