I took it to the hardware store here (although it is a small town) and they didn't know wht the **** it is. It is a one piece washer that looks like one, and then another smaller sized one narrowed down....two of them go together like this with the bolt through it.

You might want to start panning out a bit on your pictures, maybe in a second photo, so that folks can get an idea of the location of the part. As it is, it just looks like random pics of nuts and bolts you're posting...

It's the part that comes straight up behind the drivers seats. There isn't any other bolt like that in my whole convertible setup so I figured you'd know which one it was.


But yah, the washers are there so that the rest of the top can pivot around the washers with the bolt still in the midle tight.

I looked at my parts sheet last night but it did not get down to the washer/bushing detail.

One bit if info that might indirectly help you find what you are looking for is that the tops on the Corvette, Cavalier, and Geo Convertibles of that era shared a lot of parts so - when you go looking in the boneyards be sure to look for those cars also. You might get lucky!

You might go to your best local source for Nuts bolts and fastners... You might be able to find something similar that will serve the same function...

I wish I could help you better. I'll keep looking.

r4tek posted a link to some zip files that have detail on the convertible conversions with part numbers.

I found the part you are looking for on the image and it even has a description and an ASC Part number but not a GM Part number.

The area you are looking at is on image 4a. It is item 1p and it is described as a bushing and the best I can make it out is that the ASC Part Number is X-0090-508-XXXX. The image magnified to the point that you can read the part numbers is quite fuzzy so I am not 100% sure that I read that right. You might want to Email r4tek and see if he can read the original a little better...

The good thing is that there seems to be a lot of these same bushings in the system so if you come across a vert frame that is beyond repair you should have no problem coming up with a supply of them.

You still might go to the nut/bolt specialty distributor and show someone there the application. They might be able to come up with something that will do the job and probably do it better...

Justification for the VERT Board

This post is a good example of why we needed the VERT board.
The part Ovrclck350 is looking for while very common on the Fbody Convertible top frame is so obscure that it is going to be difficult to find. As of this writing this post has had 9 replies by four different people and it has been viewed 75 times and it has been up for about 48 hours...

As of right now we have located the ASC Part number and we might even get lucky enough to find someone with someof them to sell... If not we have seen where a vender has made the item for personal use and recognizes the need for a supply of these in the future...

Question: Were it not for the VERT Board what are the odds that someone that knows something about this would encounter this post.

We needed the VERT Board. Thanks for setting it up!

Why do you keep posting that link? I see NOTHING on there that will help F-body vert owners. I found no F-body parts at all.

i had to make mine....


get a nylon spacer to fit in the inner portion.... then get 2 washers to fit the outer part....

the inner one will need the hole enlarged some, but with a lil lube on a nylon bushing, its actually smoother then stock.


the trick way to do it would be on a lathe, and have it be all one part, but i dont have access to one... but doing it this way, a hand drill works great.

heh, i dont think that read too clear...


heres what i did again:

grab some nylon spacers and see if they let you go out to test fit them... find one that fits snugly into the hole... dont worry about the inner size.

once you find one that just fits in there, get some washers to make the sides up.. the holes of the washers should be smaller then the nylon spacer so it doesnt poke thru.


back home, cut the spacer to the correct length, drill the proper size hole in it.... slip it in, slip the bolt with washers on both sides in, and you're set.

in the pic below, the gray is the nylon, and the black is the washers.

heh, i just file fit them to fit in my car... if you had your car here, id do it..... but otherwise, im not taking apart my car to make them because you're lazy...


ok. tell you what, i'll send you what im using,(one) for $50.... that sounds about fair, counting my time to take apart the perfectly fine top, drive over, find the right size again, drive back home, make a new one and have it all fit.

I need the bolts too!

Can anyone tell me what size/type/screw I need? I need the washer and the screw/bolt that goes in there. Any help will be appreciated. I am new to this board and I am not the most mechanically inclined.

I have a 91 Z28.

Just to let you guys know, The zip files I posted for the convertibles are as good as they get. You can feel free to e-mail me and I will get back to you as soon as I can, but the schematics that came with the car were photocopies, and not very good ones at that.

Does anyone out ther have a similiar set ?
