Trunk lid supports

Mine are shot, I need new ones.
I can measure the length and travel but what pressure do I need? 60lbs? 75lbs?

Thanks
Lou

I just bought a set from NAPA for $27. GM dealership wanted $220. I'm not kidding.

Can you just get any ones that fit?

Yes, that's what I intend to do, buy a set that fits and has the correct pressure. But what pressure do I need? Both my supports are weak and I don't want to make the wrong guess.

I got a new pair at Kragen (I think that's a west coast thing) for under 30 bucks.

Had to.

Does anybody have the pressure/pound information? It's actually easy to measure, just put the strut vertically on a bathroom scale and press down on it (straight down). The pounds that it shows is what I need to know.

yep, same here. I just went to Auto Zone and picked up two new ones. No issues. I would think that the diameter of the support would be an indicator of its strengh/Pressure......

Eitherway, good luck!

Do you not have any sort of auto parts store where you are? Generally everyone is saying they picked them up at a National style auto parts. Try stopping by and just asking if they have them. Most places like that you can't say "I want this part" you have to tell them what vehicle it came from first. I hate those computers... Anyways, just try asking for a 91-92 Z or something.

Ok, finally got the trunk lid supports (had to wait two weeks for them to arrive). They help a bit with the trunk lid slamming but they still don't raise the lid when I pop the lock. Am I expecting too much?

I don't recall that mine ever did raise the truck lid when released. Even when the car was brand new. I think they only keep it from falling head when digging around in there for something.

Ditto what Chuck88 said, mine are brand new too and they just hold it up, not raise it.
