Speakers don't fit

The PO left me some generic 6x9 speakers. They don't fit into the rear cutouts though. There is some kind of a bracket in each cutout and it is obstructing the speaker magnets. Do I need some special slim speaker type?

Thanks in advance for any response.
Lou

i think the factory size is like 5 1/2" round speakers,although i had 6" round speakers in mine.I don't think 6x9 s will fit in a convertible.

Then the PO probably cut out the 6x9 holes. So what speakers was he using in there? I guess I can ask him.

I agree with the previous post, 6x9 won't fit in the rear speaker positions. The front speakers are 4x6.

I installed some Pioneer 6.5 inch round speakers in the rear postion and 4x6 in the front position of my convertable last year. I got them to fit with no modifications to the car.

I installed 6X9 Cerwin Vegas in the rear by buying 1.5-2.0 inch stand offs from the best buy install shop. It was a tight fit but it looked good. There was a little cutting involved. Here is a pic, I had to resize to make it work with this post.

I thought I read somewhere that they are 5x8" not the normal 6x9". I think Pioneer makes a slim set of 5x8's.
