87-88 used a different latch assembly for the tonneau, hard to get ahold of parts for, later in production they got a headliner so to speak, ground effects on the sides and fenders are modified so used regular pieces wont be a direct bolt on if theyre damaged, rust is common for the floor pans main spot to check for it, sometimes the solenoids for the tonneau wont work, dig out the cords, if the solenoids work dig out the cords anyway to verify they are there.

Couple of things to look for...
Make sure the tonneau switch works.
The top goes up and down freely.
The trunk hatch shocks work
The trunk hatch electronic raise and lower works.
Check to make sure that the doors open and close freely - The best way to check that is get two people to sit in the front seat (driver passenger) try to get them as big as possible lol. Than try opening the doors. If you have to push them open than something is out of alignment (like mine
)
