Question on vert seatbelts???

Could I take the seatbelts from my vert and a set from a coupe or t-top to make a better looking set to go in my vert? My problem is that the ones in my 87 are light saddle (tan) and are faded really bad and I wanted to take a set of black ones from a t-top or coupe to make them look almost new again. not sure if it can be done anyone know anything on this matter also if so anyone have any good looking black seat belts? LMK Thanks

I believe it can be done with the front seatbelts, but the rears have a notch cut in the male end of the buckle for the convertible shoulder belt, which is different than the coupes. I'm sure Lon can provide more insight to this... Lon?

I know they have a different part number than a coupes, but I've never investigated what makes them different. As Randy mentions, the rear belts are different because of both length and the notch for the shoulder belt (if yours has a detachable shoulder belt provision).

John's is an '87. It doesn't have rear shoulder belts. My rear belts on my '87 coupe and '87 convertible are identical in appearance. Note: Rear shoulder belts were added in '89.

If ASC re-used the stock belts, the question is how did they get the the upper guide on the belt? I imagine they have a way, it's just not user-friendly.

That's one of the few reason's I'm going to a 4-point harness instead of 4th gen belts. No way of getting the guide on without cutting the guide (something I don't think is safe to do)..

The guide is split and comes off of the seatbelt easily. There are two pieces. Both have a split in them to allow you to remove them from the shoulder belt. The split on each piece isn't visible until you disassemble it.

Very clever.. A little bit of bending by the bolt hole and it will come apart. Figures as ASC reused every bit they could.

I'd love new belts... same exact situation with faded, frayed (not badly) original belts in brown

Side note... shopping leather seats tomorrow (shr00m). New belts would be timely.

Nope... I've bought a LOT of stuff thru PerryPam tho....great vendor.

I got the belts from somone else on there. i will have to look it up. They are sitting her next to me on my desk for safe keeping until the vert is ready for them. They are BRAND NEW. they look awesome.....

Now all I need are some NOS black rears to go with it....

As far as I've seen, you don't... You find a new/used set. I'm not saying you can't, but I've never seen it documented at least.

I have replaced the entire interior in my '88 Iroc vert and took it from faded gray to black. After going through all the crap with the belts, I would advise you to find a good upholstry shop and ask if they can replace the webbing on your belts with new webbing in whatever color you want. They should be able to match it in terms of the belt material and stitching. Try www.ssnake-oyl.com but realize that most shops should be able to do it. At least that's what a couple of shops told me in my search. I haven't had it done yet (found an old set that I'll eventually switch out) but will at some point. If you get lucky like 911rsq, that's great, but it generally takes a lot of time and money to get what you want that way. Having a shop do it might prove a good alternative.

Does anyone know of someone with a set of black rear belts? I am willing to pay good $$$ for a set. It would have to be NOS.

I am a long way off from bolting belts in, so even in the future, keep me in mind....

I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time is all.....
