Found Vert, Any advice

I have been looking for another 3rd gen since I sold my GTA. Always liked the Camaro Verts so I ran across this 88 5spd with probably the L03 in it. Going to look at it tonight. Anything about verts I should be aware of when checking it out. Also what is a reasonable price for this. California car looks pretty clean.

Check for saging doors, and body lines. These cars tend to flex ALOT! Of course check out the top to ensure it goes down smoothly.

Other than that, if it's what you are looking for, then go for it. The cars can range from $2k all the way to $20k+. Let us know more details, and we ca give you a better ball park figure of what to ask for.

Sagging doors are a pain but nothing you can't fix. Actually, it's pretty difficult.

Checked it out.

The Good
Top is perfect like new
Runs great
shifts smooth, good clutch operation.
Alllights radio, gauges etc. seem to work find
Interior is clean

The Bad:
Dent left front fender
Looks to have been hit in back rear corner panel, Has been pulled out, but a bit rough, rear hatch doesn't line up perfectly. (see pic not visible to much but you can see the differnece in color on paint)
Odometer doesn't operate properly, shows 51,xxx but only a 5 digit odo so thats probably 151K plus whatever isn't showing.
Small oil seapage up by the front of pan (rear main seal? Pan gasket?) who knows.

I could easily pic this up for $2500 Might even go as low as $2000
I am not a body guy and unfortunatly I do not have any closer pics to show you guys. Ok let me hear your thoughts. My initial thought is to pass on this. Oh yeah its a 305 TBI, with rear drum brakes.

Car: A Camaro of some sort.
Can't really beat that price for what you are getting. If you want a mint car, I would wait since there are original paint 'verts going for 5k.

Price seems OK to me. I bought a 88 vert with the LB9, G80, G92 with about 80K miles for $2000. It needed new carpet and a new top (leaky rear window which is why it needed new carpet). It has no rust and one minor dent on the driver side front fender. Oh yeah, it still needs painted. There are some other minor things that need tweaked. I also ended up rebuilding the heads, just bought hooker headers, and had the intake, runners, plenum, valve covers, etc powder coated. I did some of it gloss black and other peices I used the black wrinkle finish. Car is black also. Not sure how it will look, but I can always change it if I don't like it. I didn't want bright colors for fear of always having to clean it. At this point, I want a durable low maint finish.

Good thing is that it's a Chevy and parts are fairly cheap and available. However, the vert top does seem to be harder to get parts for.

I'd say that's a good find if you can get it for $2000.
My 91 RS was valued at $5300 by the insurance company at a total loss. The paint was in great shape, but it also had a dent in the front fender, the top was original and in need of replacement, the interior was in ok shape, old but no rips.
And it has 152,000 miles on it.

So I'd say it's a pretty good buy.
Buy it and keep it until you can afford a nice paint job on it and you will get your money back. Out of all the Camaros made in these years.... only 2 percent were convertibles on average. And it's everyones feelings that these are and will be becoming collectibles.

If nothing else... It's a lot of fun to drive and you will get looks from everywhere. Which is worth 2k in my book alone.

After researching a bit I found out that car has a Salvage title, so I am passing. I did however stumble on a 88 Vert IROC in red (I would have prefered any other color, but minor issue) 78,000 original miles confirmed by carfax, needs a top and maybe front ball joints. Going to get a closer look tomorrow. Oh yeah its 305 TPI with an auto. Small dent on lip of driver fenderwell, and a crack in passenger side headlight pocket (right where the black is painted on the flat surface).

This car is also up in the area where a 305, 5 spd, TBI, T-top Maui blue Formula is with only 90K miles and looks very clean I think I will check both out since I have to travel a bit.

What's wrong with red?

That looks like a clean IROC, what are they asking for it?

Nothings wrong with red, if your in to that sort of thing
I am just not a fan of red, or white cars. The black IROC is my favorite with the grey being second.

They are asking $4800 but he hasn't got back to me in the last 36 hours so I am getting a little anxious not hearing from him. I do not have his # so far all contact has been through emails.
