Ok well guys I went ahead and did it.. I finally bought a vert. Ive wanted one so long its not even funny, and now ive got one, and I dont rightly know what to do with myself.

The car is an 89 Camaro RS. It is Black. It is a L03/a4 car. It has a black top, with the black and grey interior. Power windows, locks, cruise controll etc.

Things to do to it. Ive already put a new battery and alternator in her. I also took off the front grille insert, as i am not too fond of the rs louvers up front, not to mention it was all cracked. A buddy of mine is going to sell me his 90-92 Z28 grille as a replacement for 50.00 its brand new so I think thats abou tgoing price for them.

Things needed SOON.
Middle of trunk spoiler, broke off. Have old one, just not the studs that hold her down.

The handle that actually opens the back window up off the tonneau, I need, as it was broken before I got the car. I know hawks carrys it for about 85.00 so thats another thing to get. other than that the car seems sound. no major leaks. Even in the rain. Top could use replacing, but may last a couple years more yet. Interior is in great shape, except for normal drivers side wear and tear, so there is a seat cover on it. AC blows cold, hell i think it even has factory exhaust, cause the car is SUPER quiet.

When I go over bumps there is little to no sounds, no creaks, no twisting on uneven ground or anything. There is a bit of a rattle in the driver door when the windows are down, but even my hard top does that, so I think over all its a good car. I paid only 2800 for her. Ill try to get better pics posted of it, soon, but there are some not so good ones in the thread that I posted up a few days ago.

Finally DONE With My Interior
Since I am apparently technologically challenged and cannot get my pictures to appear here (too big) or whatever I am just going to use this link.

Please take a look:

Has anyone tried a 5 speed conversion in an 'vert? I am in the process of buying a 1987 IROC vert with the LB9/700R4 and would like to make it a 5 speed.

I'm not going to beat the car to death, it will just be a weekend driver and usually with my 5 year old daughter with me. I would just like to be able to shift something fun with the top down fter driving my anemic, automatic 2 liter VW Jetta to work over 800 miles per week...

Apparently this is something that is done all the time, I think Hawk's even has a kit with all the parts which might make it easier than trying to find it all.

I guess my realy question for the 'vert forum is, with all the talk about chassis stuffness (or lack therein) and cowl shake, is this a bad idea? Or am I fine unless I start adding lots of power? (not likely anytime soon).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

NO PROBLEM!
TransAm90210,

It should be no problem making the swap to a 5 speed - or at least no more trouble than doing the swap in any other thirdgen. The issues you mention about chassis stiffness and cowl shake are minor and should have no bearing on your project.

Good Luck!

Speedy

Thank You!
Thanks '87 IROC VERT for the compliment. It is much appreciated.

If I had it to do over again, I would still do it, just that I would do it smarter and faster than I did it this time. The flame red leather and carpeting and the black dash make for a nice contrast. Very photogenic.

Car is going into storage for the winter next week. This coming spring I am going to sell it and find something else to play with. I need a carbureted car with no computer and no smog equipment. Which means a mid 60's car. Firebirds and Cougars are what I am contemplating. maybe I can find someone to trade with.......

Has anyone gotten their newly rebult engine in the car, wired up ready to go, headers on, carb in place, accessories bolted down, and ready to drop in the new distributor and then realized that they had forgotten to put the oil pump drive shaft in place....

well i have not done much to car this year because i have been so busy with work. but i have an 87 vert black with gray racing seats. and a grand national engine. i had a little bit of a fire last year at the drag strip and lost my whole wiring harness so i ended up rewiring the hole car from the headlight all the way to the tailights, and if you know how that goes. u know why i haven't done nothing else to it. the car pretty much sat all summer because of lack of time. i played with a little hear and ther but not much, i put all new auto meter gauges in it. put my battery in the trunk, and ripped out the heat and ac.( its a vert don't need them plus to much weight). still needs an eghaust system because i cut the old one off i didn't like they way it looked. need to repaint the roll cage becuse the was broken at one point and it rubbed on the top bar of the cage. but thats preety much it, just felt sharing this with you guys.

well i guess i should prolly put this up b/c i got quite a list of things i'm planning on doing in the next year or 2

tomorrow i'm ordering my EZ top (glass window ) and also new weatherstripping so i dont leak all over the place...

next thing to do after that will be a lil' more expensive unless i can find a really good deal on here or another forum...but i want ZR1's on my camaro, preferrably chrome but if not i think the silver "gunmetal" would also look nice...any opinions on that?

then next thing will be one of 2 things...

A) full exhaust from headers back...,most likely edelbrock headers and flowmaster exhaust, i'm a huge fan of flowmaster...

B) T56 swap...i would REALLY like to be able to shift into my gears myself that would be nice lol

after i do either A or B i will be saving some more money and doing the other one after i have enough $$$

shoulda said i'm ordering the set THRU a shop, not FROM a shop, just to clarify...i'm counting the hours before i get to go in there and have him look at it and say "ok i'll take $100 now, and when the parts get here in a week i'll take the car and we'll be on our way"

oh i can't wait! it's gonna look so much better...
