Anything Interesting Happening Here?
I usually am a faithful reader of threads here in the convertible board. Is it just me or has this board just gotten plain old BORING? Same old questions, over and over.
I would like to try something different.
How about people chiming in with interesting projects or doing something cool with THEIR convertibles? I would like to hear about that.....would be kinda like a story in a car magazine.....you know the ones: the ones that will always run an article on a 1st gen Camaro, but never on a 3rd, or at least seldom....if ever.
Nothing much interesting on mine. Just installing new carpeting and back seats and refurbishing the front and doing a deep clean on everything else while it is all apart. Mostly working on the house and on my daughter's hardtop Firebird (1987) that she bought for $250.
How about YOU?

My '90 RS vert project is transforming itself into a '92...
. After much consideration, the front half of my vert is thrashed (bought it totalled) and I am gonn have to put a new front clip on it. There has been much discussion on which way is better, either converting the whole t-top car over, or just putting the front clip on it. I choose to clip it. I just ordered TONS of parts from RocVert and should have them here soon

Too much to do.....
RArnold,
You got it. I have been doing the brakes on the Firebird (my daughter's) and everything needs replaced. Doing some body work on it too. Plus I am giving her projects to do, after all it is her car.
My house was built in 1918. Plaster, lathe, and horse hair. Never again will I buy a house older than me!!!

This board has been boring. You might call it a "bored".

I'm trying to get the time together and do the planning involved in painting the GTA rims I got for my car. I think they need to be gold:
Basically, I've been drivingthe car daily and enjoying the heck out of it. It's truely a summer car.

Haven't been up to much I guess.. Too hot to do anything on the car. Did finally make some progress on the 4th gen dash swap:

I have also been collecting pics of most of the cars here on ThirdGen. I am making kind of a roster of most of the clean and custom cars.... I just got a new one of Cadillac's here on this thread.... That makes 19 pics of his car...
I have around 150 pics of 18 diff cars.... 19 cars if you count both of zepher's.... I am always looking for more pics of everyone's clean and custom cars....

DRIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys,
I haven't done much to my car lately. For the most part I have been just trying to find the opportunity to drive it.
In South Georgia we are stuck in a weather pattern where it rains EVERY afternoon - usually about the time I would be driving home from work... I don't have any qualms about the watertite integrity of weatherstripping or top or anything like that. I just don't trust the other drivers on the road. I can just picture some idiot sliding into my car and totally screwing it up! So, I have been driving my truck pretty much every day with an occasional brief drive in the vert just to keep things operating properly.
I have a bunch of things I want/need to do to the car. I need to re-tighten header bolts. This time I will install the Locks when I do... I love the sound and the change in performance the headers bring but I am about sick of tightening the bolts.
I need to replace the dashpad - again! I'm going to go with the cover by that third gen company in Charlotte - can't remember the name right off.
I have a set of the clear side markers for the front - I want to install them.
I have the filterbox for a TPI Car and I want to build ducts for a stealth ram air for that box and I need to find a way to duct it to my TBI Throttle body.
I want to polish my tailights with plastic polish so that they will look showroom new again.
I have new RED buttons to go into the seatbelts. I need to install them.
A while back I purchased a door hinge kit from TDS. That needs to be installed...
At the moment I can't seem to get any time away from work. Every year it seems that the company I work for will innundate us techies with projects. I have three weeks of vacation to take between now and Dec 31. It will be late september/early october before most of these projects are completed... Oh well - if it wasn't for the income nothing could be done on the car!
Speedy

I couldn't pass it up, how many times can you finance an LS1 at 7% and in the end not pay anything for the swap??

THAT sounds logical, interesting and like one hell of a deal!

The LS1, plastic tank, and ALL the wiring from the 2000 Z is going in the 92. All the interior will be from a 93 TA I parted out last year.
Making the 93 dash and door panels work with the 92 wiring was going to be hard enough, trying to integrate the LS1 wiring was just going to be too much. I'd have 20 pounds of solder in it! It's going to be whole lot easier to swap plugs on anything that doesn't match up (lights, mirrors, etc...)
If anyone want's my T56, it's for sale. Should have it and the 305 out next week. Not to mention all the 4th gen parts I've got all over the place...

I hav'nt been doing much to mine in the last month or so. But in the past year I have replaced the springs, shocks, struts, strut mounts, front lca bushings, ball joints, tie rods, idler arm, center link, rear lca's, panhard rod and added alston subframe connectors, a kennybrown stb and a tds wonderbar.
I've also built a zero decked 350 with zz4 cam and afr 180's to go in front of the word class T-5 I scored. I need to do somthing about the 2.73 gears, but I have enough on my plate for now.
The car has also been painted and needs a new top..... but again, in time. We just moved and I've been busy with house and yard stuff myself.

Alright shipfitter, you must have motivated me. I pulled the passenger window motor out tonight and think I will wait untill I get a door hinge repair kit to put it back together.
I think I'm just gonna drop the 350 in and do the manual conversion later, still need master/slave, hydrolics, flywheel and clutch and can't afford them. I would also like to get a miniram or convert a lt1 intake to go on the new engine but can't afford that either. So, if I can scrape up some funds for some odds and ends stuff I think I'll tear the tpi off and match the base to the heads, runners to the base and just drive it for a while. Mabey the BBK intake will be out about the time I get a handle on tuning and I'll swap cams while doing the intake.
The ol' 305 still runs good with 157'xxx on the clock but leaves a good bit to be desired.

Jesus 911rsq, I just looked at your car description and see you have a few projects....... How will you ever get one done? I would be jumping around from one to the other for the rest of my life.

Alrighty Then........
Glad to see that I MOTIVATED someone!
I am working everyone else's projects and ignoring the ones that are most important to me........namely my '92 Camaro. I have been doing bodywork on my daughter's '87 Firebird........right quarter is done, now for the left quarter panel! Front brakes are done (new rotors, calipers, & pads), wheel bearings are repacked, all zirc fittings are greased and brakes are bled. When i test drove it, the right rear wheel cylinder blew out, so that is my next project: new drums, wheel cylinders, shoes, and spring kit.
After that is the exhaust from the outlet connection of the cat back. Looking for a light grey rear seat for her car that isn't shredded (so if you can hook us up, THANKS!)
Still waiting to finish installing my interior, console, kick panels and seats.....then i can drive her again!
Now, if I can only motivate myself...........hmmmmm

Why Wait.......
Why wait until 2009 to build the car of your dreams? If you are stock piling parts now and have the car now and cannot drive.....then start building the car. When 2009 rolls around in 3.5 years you will have something to drive that was worth waiting for......
So tell me.........
..........what does a person do to lose his license for 3.5 to 4 years? I am sure EVERYBODY is curious as to how much wickedness it takes to deserve such punishment.

The hood is from the g.p. here from ramairhood.com It came out pretty straight. I do have a great body man though. He made it look great. Lots of sanding.

I Am Bored......
......with my Camaro.
I think next year is the year. Assuming I do not get laid off (big assumption there), I am either going to sell or trade my convertible.
THAT will be my goal.

Anyone want to trade?

Well, I got motivated (a little) and started on the wheels. This is definetly not a "hurry up" kind of project. Still, I think I will enjoy the results when they are done.

Sorry that the picture is not any better. The car is filthy and has been sitting since June. Guess I will not drive it this month either. One way to keep the mileage low!
Today, I am going to install a new exhaust on my daughter's Firebird and new adjusters for the rear dum brakes. Waiting for a headlight motor.....then I will be about done with that wreck and can get back to installing the interior in my convertible.
This was the logo I had designed for me and was going to have embroidered in my headrest(s):

an old photo of a submarine similar to USS Gurnard SSN-662 (one of my old boats) doing a dockside EMBT (Emergency Main Ballast Tank) blow test (URO-22) while snorkeling (shore power was disconnected). Neat picture.

More progress..
Got the engine and tranny out today. There's just about no wiring left in the car at all and completely no interior. Time to start transferring parts from the 2000..
Sure you don't want the T56 Cadillac???

I like the design you did for the headrests. I did something similar for mine.....
This was to go into the headrests as well...

On The Road Again........well, sorta.....
Finished the Firebird.
Finished reinstalling the interior in my Camaro. Washed it and cleaned the months of gunk off of it and it looks good.
Runs like crap, however.
Please read this thread and let me know what you think:

Hope all is well down your way.

Yeah, house and car(s) made it through fine. Still don't have power or septic yet. We're hiding out in Birmingham, AL for a bit. It's a mess...

Well, alright!
That is good. The important thing is that you guys are okay and the family is healthy.
I have a friend that relocated from the shipyard here in Bath to Pascagoula. I am still waiting to hear from him. I heard they got hit really hard.

I've been woring on rebuilding this stoopid 305 from one of my "project" '87 Z28s. It's pretty much done. I just need to pull the other engine and clean and swap the accessories and sensors, and in she goes.....

i might as well chime in... ive already got a 9C1 Caprice Cop motor in mine, but its going to be re-vamped soon with a set of Ported Vortecs and an LT4 Hot Cam kit... and yes, im running TBI on it with a Edelbrock Vortec TBI manifold. eventually a T56 will be bolted behind that and then a 9" w/ 3.42:1's on the back with discs. Now, if only i can get ahold of the 800 bucks i need for the heads/cam/intake... haha

Shr00m... I DO WANT IT! PM me with a price for kicks. I'm sure the labor involved with making the conversion would kill me. Still, it all hinges on a good deal.
911... that was the primer. Here is how it turned out:
I'm liking it.
Thoughts for those in the path of Rita now...
