Car: 91 formula
Engine: 350 tpi
Transmission: auto
Axle/Gears: poss
starter or something else?

sometimes I turn the key and nothing happens until I try it bout 3 to 4 times then it starts. I mean no click from starter when I say nothing happens. other times I can get in it and it turns right over. vats has been bypassed.

NSS (neutral safety switch)
Loose battery cable (+ or -)
Corrosion on battery posts or cable ends
Loose wire on starter

Yes! the starter relay, drove me nuts also, exact same problem you are describing. It is located behind the kick panel next to your left foot.
I've enclosed a pick of it, hope I did this correctly. Easy to replace and should solve your issue.

Engine: 2.8 v6
Transmission: 5 speed manual
Axle/Gears: 3.42 posi just chngd from 3.73

hello ,,, I've got the same problem w/ a 84 firebird v6 manual.... is there a relay on it also...??

thanks for the replies. I put new starter on my car and haven't had anymore problems. I think the solenoid was bad in the old one.
