Is this for real?

Is this truly a factory car? The guy says it was shipped from the factory to a specialty shop to a dealer (I guess like all our verts that were done by ASC).

eBay Motors: Pontiac : Trans Am (item 4629825019 end time Apr-19-06 13:18:35 PDT)

BTW ... were there any verts made prior to 1989? There aren't any production numbers in the "Tech Data" link on the thirdgen home page. I didn't know if there weren't any, or if they just don't have any production numbers for them ...

That's definitely an interesting car. I don't think I've ever seen a two-seater trans am for sale--only two-seater camaros. I can't remember who did the two-seat conversions, but they are definitely out there.

I would hate to have one of those snap-on tops. What a PITA!

I can remember. The car was converted by Autoform of Elkhart IN. The company was one of a dozen or so that were doing convertible conversions before GM authorized ASC's version.

Nice looking Autoform convertible.
They are out there, just not too many like the ASC conversions.

The claim that the car listed for over $35,000 seems a bit suspect. According to the above posted info on Autoform, these conversions cost around $5,500. So what were T/A's going for in 1985, $15-$16K? Add another $5K for the conversion makes it more like $21,000. So how does that add up to $35,000+? Heck, Corvette verts didn't even cost that much in '85 did they?

I thought that was a little fishy myself. Maybe it was a typo?

I've got the original window sticker for my '92 and it was 26K WITH the ASC conversion, so I doubt the 35K is accurate.

Well, it got all the way to $5,600 before it ended ... that's less than I paid for my '92 ASC vert.

I think the guy shot himself in the foot by (1) telling that his reserve was over $20K and (2) because he said the original sticker was over $35K ... people smelled a rat there.

Actually , if I were in the market, I'd pay a good bit for one of those cars as rare as they are, but over $20,000? Get real. If I had 20 grand to blow on a car, you'd bet your butt it would be on a 2nd Gen.

Yeah! $35,000 is to high! I have the original sticker from my 1984 Z28 vert done by Autoform for $21,656.22. That TA has the LG4 engine in it too! I have the L69 in mine. I have 30,675 miles on my car and it was appraised at $16,500. I have seen these cars sell for between $5,600 to $18,000 for perdect ones. If he thinks he will get anywhere near 35 for it, he might better keep it!

I saw one brand new in the fall of 1984, a white on black model. Seems like the price was between 25000-30000. In some areas a dealer may have tried to get 35000 out of them. Corvette convertibles were not made between 76-85. I saw an 87 brand new at City Chevrolet in Charlotte for 40000.
