I found a set of lowering springs (Jamex) and struts (KYB) for a third gen and bought them. I have noticed when I looked more closely at ebay, that most companies sell them but say "except convertibles". Before I get going on this, what am I missing and what do I need to know?

After reading through posts, I couldn't find an answer. If you could enlighten me on the vert I'd be grateful.

OK, more simply asked..... what is the difference between vert suspension and non-vert. Someone has to know.

 

Not sure what the difference is in suspension. I have dropzones on the rs and sportlines on the iroc. Both sets work just fine.

 

And those are the same as would be on a coupe, t-top etc?

 

Jamex was the only spring manufacturer to offer a different version of spring for the convertibles or coupes. They must have used a slightly different spring rate (I presume higher) to compensate for the increased weight of the convertible compared to the coupe. There is nothing suspension-wise to prevent you from using a spring designed for a coupe on a convertile.

For the record - I've had my Jamex springs on for 6 years with no problems. These are the ones supposedly not for convertibles. Infact, I was never aware of any convertible specific lowering springs from Jamex (or anyone else)

How much did it lower your ride? Any problems with installation? Feel free to send me any tips before I get started.

Also, what size wheels and tires do you have and are you happy with the look?

It lowered it about 1,5". Im was at first running 17x9,5" Torq Trust IIs but Im now running 18x8 and 18x10 Boze Stingers. No problems with the installation, and I actually made a tech article about the install here: ChevyWorld.net Tech: Installing Lowering Springs

Im pleased with the look, and although I would probably like the look even better at a 2" or so drop - this is about as low as I can go with the roads around here.

hah that was you and your car that made that write up? Well thats what i used i put in springs(didnt need to follow some of the steps) but thanks you helped a lot!

 

well since nobody else knows, i guess i'll inform the difference between the t-top/coupe and vert springs. and the answer is nothing, the springs are no different but the amount of drop you can do without rubbing is different, the vert has a shorter distance between the tire and the top of the inner wheel well, the tops of the rear fenders were chopped and flattened to make the vert top fit in the down position. i have dropzone springs on my 91 rs vert with the f41 suspension and a set of 20's with no big problem, i'd bottom out here and there. no big deal.

How much did Jamex springs cost in the US.

 

buy the sport springs from eibauch for the coupe and you will not have that problem, i bought mine six years ago, and their still perfect, even with my 17 in wheels.
