How rare is this??
I've been searching and havent found any exact numbers. I recently picked up a triple black (black exterior, black interior, black top) 89 IROC-Z vert. The car has a 305 TPI, 5spd. It has the silver trim package (silver decals and wheels) The car has 78,xxx miles on it and came out of california. Its absolutely spotless underneath. Not a spot of rust anywhere. It could use a good repaint. Im just curious as to how many where made like this. Everybody keeps telling me I found a rare piece. Is this true?? Thanks for your help. This is my first 3rd gen.

Being that it is a 5speed, yes, it is rare.
It seems like a good find. How much do they want for her?

I already bought it, I paid $3600 for it, it needs a motor the original is blown. I've looked and here in the Chicagoland area a clean runner can fetch as much as 12k, depending on the options.

you're blessed with rust free cars in CA, here in IL, rust is king and when you have a completely rust free car, it pulls big money. As for setting them apart from the rest. Well I restore cars for a living. Vehicles that are rock stock bring the most money. I would never modify this thing, nor would I ever molest another car ever again if it has some significant value

That's awesome! I wish i could make a living restoring cars!
From what I have seen thus far, Thirdgens have NO value at all.
Now, this is a highly debated issue on this board. But just one look at the classifieds proves my point. It seems that the avg. price for a thirdgen these days is about $3500.

Production numbers
Opner,
I found this cool site that has production numbers. It also breaks down the % of options ordered on those numbers. There is VIN look up, Motor codes and all kinds of cool info.

There is a lot of good stuff here I'm glad I found this forum.
I picked up a black 91 Vert last year for 4500. It has some electrical problems...Relays on the fire wall are not working right. I got them riged for now. The thing just lookes and runs great. It was cool to find my 305 TBI is one of 3328 Verts produced ( ordered from the factory).

Mr. IROC-Z, I'll see your $12k and raise you $19k for a vert.

I e-mailed the seller a few weeks ago and asked if the sale went through. He said yes. He said two people were bidding that really wanted the car.
This price is not typical, but it may be an indication of where the market is going.
Opher, I think the t5 combined with it being a vert will increase the future value. (Although I may be a bit biased).
Does the rear end have any rust? That is the only place I have it on my car. You can see the rear in my post 'Aborted SFC install'.
Someone posted a pic of their car that only had about 2k miles and it looks like our rear ends and sway bars had no paint on them from the factory.

You know, that auction for $19k is awesome! It is strange however, that the blue vert with 60k miles only sold for $9k.
In any case, I also do hope our cars rise in value one day!
