1986 Z/28 Convertible special edition
Hello,
I just bought a 1986 Camaro Z/28 Convertible and I can't seem to find any information on this model. It appears to have about the same convertible top setup that my 89 Iroc has but, there is a hand lever to clamp the top down on the back. The car has a tag on the dash under the factory z/28 tag that reads "special edition 0081" I'm trying to find out where it was made and how many there are out there or approx. what it's worth. Also, it has the 145 mph speedometer in it. The tach redlines at 5000 RPM's.
The other puzzling thing is that under the hood the engine tag reads "5.7 litre" and I know there were no 350 convertible's manufactured...
Anybody have any idea where I could get some more info. on the car?
Also, on my 89' Iroc convertible it has a factory radar detector mounted up underneath of the dash above the speedo etc. It's hard to see but, I bought it from the original owner and he said it was there from the factory. Anybody heard of or seen one of these?
Thanks for any help! I appreciate it!

i have seen ur 86 on ebay last week, nice and rare color
the officail convertible production started in 1987
but in 1986 ASC did some convertibles for customers and they had
on the dash special edition # i have seen a few like urs,
in 1986 may be there was a minor difference in top mechanism,
some customer conversions were also done in 1987,
here is a link to one of them
1987 Chevrolet Camaro - Bud's Chevrolet
about the engine check ur rpo codes in center console between the 2 seats
if u have L98 code it's 350 but i highly doubt it in 86,
but if RPM yellow from 4500 to 5000 that means the stock is 305 engine
and there is no official production # for non-factory convertibles like urs,

I came acros somethign a while back about special edition asc camaros and about them havings 5.7l engines. I cant remember where I read about though. I have never seen any badging like that before. Interesting.....I guess since the conversion was done before the official 20th anniversary of the camaro in 1987, anything goes.
Just read an intersesting article about asc.....never new there were 1000 pieces unique to the camaro convertible!
(Edited out the longest link in the history of the world and replaced it with one that links to the same page
