Warning decal for opening the toneau
First off I'm in Iraq and bought a 91 Z28 vert. I haven't seen the car personally but have of course seen some pictures. So I don't have loads of details about the car. I owned a 91 rs coupe new. This is my first vert. I was surfing ebay and just happened to see this car and bought it. The rear spoiler was stolen off the back and there's a few small problems, but otherwise a pretty nice car. I'm having the paint touched up and a spoiler installed and was wondering about the decal that goes on the decklid inside that warns not to open the toneau with the trunk open. I have not seen this decal but I'm pretty sure I read about it here on third gen. Anyway can any one tell me where I can get one and possible post a picture of where it goes. My car has a decal on the decklid but it is painted over and is peeling off. There is a little rust on the lip of the decklid so I'm having it painted inside and out and would like to replace this decal. Also did any 91 verts come with the heritage stripes? I see bunch of 92's but no 91's. I like the way the stripes look and was considering putting them on my car. Sorry for the long thread.
Thanks

ok I think I found the decal I need. It actually goes behind the license plate. That makes a lot more sense then on the deck lid. But know I wonder what decal is on my decklid painted over. Anyone know? Thanks

The heritage stripes were put on to celebrate the 25th aniversary which
would make it a '92 only option.
Where did you find the decal? I saw some guy reproducing them on his home printer or something and selling them on ebay. Did you find an original?
I don't know what decal you are talking about being painted over. Give us a little more info.
Thanks for doing what you do over there. Hope you make it back safely!

I like to get one of the warning decals too. Where did you find it?
The decal on the inside of the trunk lid is an instruction of how to change a flat tire.

Yes that's the one, except that mine has a white background instead of yellow. Then again maybe it has just faded to white over the years....
I suspect that it was installed by ASC when they did the conversion, so I don't know where I could buy a new one. Do you know?
I think that you can still get a new tire/jack instruction decal at Classic Industries, Specialists in GM muscle car restoration and performance parts.

I searched around on ebay but came up empty handed.
Hey I found it!

Plndtx thanks for the kind words. I figured the stripes were 92 only. F body motorsports advertises them as 91-92 heritage stripes. So I figured I would ask. Oh well that saves me $250
I'll try to get a picture posted in the next day or so of the decal that is painted over. It makes sense for it to be a tire change decal like mnorton says.
Mnorton I'm glad you found the decals. Do they appear to be close to the original? If you guys say they are then I'll ****** one up. Thanks for the link to classic industries I'll check them out.
Thanks to all for the replies.

The tire change/jack instruction that I found looks to be an OEM decal. Go for it!
I am the one selling the yellow warning decals. I had them printed from a local company not on my computer at home. My original decal had faded from the yellow background to the white background mentioned above. They are as close to the original as I could get. I would recomend painting over the old decal as the original lettering will show thru slightly.

I ended up buying an after market spoiler from Hawks third gen.
What do you want for yours? I may be interested just to have an OEM one. I also need the gasket.
What year is it off of?
Thanks

On my 89 Firebird FORMULA Vert it has the same decal BUT its located on TOP of the tail lights on the center piece. Is that where the 91 & 92 Firebird decal is as well?
What I do not like about the location on the Firebird is you can see the decal from the rear of the car with the trunk closed... looks like crap IMO.

Well I bought the new decal, (I even bought two) but I'm not happy with them... There is an error on it. The original sticker says "WITH TONNEAU AJAR", the reproduction sticker says "WITH TONNEAU OPEN".
This text difference makes the decal stand out as an obvious copy to anyone who knows what to look for.
I wonder if I can get new decals with the corrected text on them....
What do you think JoJo?

I am sorry that you are not satisfied with the decals. My original was missing that corner. Can any one else here confirm the wording? I believe mine is correct, but I could be wrong. If you would like a refund, please return the decals and I would be happy to give you a refund. I don't have any that have the word Ajar on them. If others can confirm the that theirs say Ajar on them, I will probably have some made.

I can confirm the wording is "AJAR" not "OPEN". Also the decal on my 1990 RS 'vert has a white background, not yellow. I've owned the car since 1991 at which time it had just shy of 5K miles. The black lettering has faded some, but the background is and to the best of my recollection always been white.

Jojo,
Look above at the pic of the label in Willie's post #5. It shows AJAR on it.
If you can get new labels made, that's really what I'm looking for. At a minimum I would like to return one of the two labels I have purchased for now. If I'm not able to ever get the original label wording, the one I have now is better than having no label at all.
Mine looks like it had a white background too... Willie thinks that it has just faded from yellow to white. Since I'm not the original owner I'm not sure what color it was.
Thanks,
Mark

Jojo,
The pic I attached above is the decal I purchased directly from Chevy many years ago. It is original.
Mark,
I've owned three 1987 Camaro convertibles. All three had bright yellow decals, except one was faded to a very pale yellow. I can conclude from this that it was faded.

Well? Lon says the background on his 90 RS has been white all along. Willie says his 87 and factory decal are yellow.
What are the chances they changed the background color in 90? After all they changed the power window and lock switch colors.
Just a thought. I wonder if the dealer would have specs on this, any other ideas to find out what's factory for these cars?

I just received new replacement decals with the corrected text "WITH TONNEAU AJAR" and they look great! They look very close to the original decal with a yellow background.
You can find them on Ebay.
Thanks Jojo.

I was told last night on the phone that my decal came in as well. It says toneau ajar. She says it looks great. If she's happy I'm happy!
Thanks Jojo

Glad everyone is happy with them. Would anyone be interested in ordering the convertible top operation decal that originally came on the drivers side sun visor? I will try to attach a pic of mine here. Let me know. Since they are two colors they will cost me several hundred dollars to get them made. They will probably need to cost $14.99 each plus shipping ($3.00)

Thanks once again for your help Willie... You have been such a good advisor for me.
Also, notice that I have a 2032 in my 305 TPI now. I'm learning to tune via the PROM now. Water under the bridge for you I'm sure.....

that visor decal is on my todo list in the distant future
my 91 TA vert has it in ok shape, but my 90 IROC vert has new visors from a T-top car and therefor doesn't have the decal
if you do get them made send me a pm and I will pick up atleast one in the future

Re: Warning decal for opening the toneau
If the 88 verts had the visor decal, I'd like one also. Mine was minus the visors when I got it. Got FB convertible visors, I believe - used. Look good, no decal. I did buy the tonneau decal off Ebay. The seller advertised that someone in his family, I believe worked for the conversion company, had some of the originals left over, or something like that. Canadian guy from British Columbia. He was selling them for like $26 starting bid. Early ones sold like over $100, but after 2 or 3, I was able to get mine for the starting bid. Looks good, yellow, "ajar". I still have the mailing envelope with his return address if anyone is interested. Got this one last fall. He may have stopped listing them when the bids didn't go up. Supposed to be original, not reproductions. I've been wrong before, though.
