What do you think this car would go for?
I saw this car on EBay. 140127286922
After looking at KBB and Edmunds I came up with a number that was in the middle of the Private party. Are these web sites a good reference? The car is cool, but with the problems it has would it's value be that high? I have an 89 GTA T-top with all kinds of mods and I can't imagine I could get that much for it. I just thought I'd see what you guys thought, because I've been a sport bike guy for a while and lost touch.
Thanks,
383GTA1989
p.s. I'm not selling it, but thinking about buying.

I'd say its worth between 4 and 5k respectively
The leather is in good shape, which is surprising. The interior overall looks good in the pictures
The paint on the car looks original. Shame it isn't a 90 Iroc, that would be worth about 8k or so in similar condition

I'd say the current bid of $4500 should be the top dollar for this one.
- Paint is good but not great
- Interior is good but not great (dirty, dusty, dirver's seat has damage, etc)
- Top is good but not great (owner admits a few small holes)
- Miles are good but not great (not really low but not high either)
A lot of things just seem to make this car shy of getting any more. Most things don't look to bad but need a little TLC to be really good.
And a tinted windshield! I look at that as a negative, not a positive like the seller. Highly illegal in almost every (if not all) states and provinces. And also poses a possible safety issue at night.

Re: What do you think this car would go for?
Those are all good points. Having a tinted windshield was a red flag to me also. I don't know any "Car guys" that would tint their windshield. The $7500 BIN also seemed like the guy was dreaming. The nose looks a little beat up, but not bad. I asked about pictures of the underside, but he didn't have any. Beings the car is in the middle of the rust belt I'm a little concerned. In this area I see lots of 3rd gens with rust in the rear quarters so I get a little nervous when you can't get pictures. I've tried to keep an eye out for a covert for a while and I see some better and some worse and I didn't think the price was very realistic. I was thinking mid 3's, but then again I've not delt with convertibles. Hard top and T-Tops seem to be a dime a dozen and I'm sure that's why the price is so much better.

Re: What do you think this car would go for?
It looked like it had a buy it now for $5,700
The car looks ok, 80K, it has a little rust on the hood, which I would think would be unusual, but not unheard of as it was a southern car at one point (Mississippi as mentioned). Southern cars the sun bakes the paint off, plus you have the salt from the Ocean, the undersides are better than a Michigan car...
For a 18 year old car, I do not think he is way out of line... I would not be surprised if he gets what he is asking...
As for a Modified GTA... modified cars are hit or miss.. If you can find someone who wants the car just like that then your in luck, unfortunately more people want a car more or less original and modify it to their likeing...
Personally if you want something special look for a nice 89 GTA, Trans Am or Formula 350 convertible... ASC made about 200 350 powered Firebirds in 1989. I have a Formula 350, and some others here on the boards have GTA's & Trans Am's. Although they were not "Officially" offered by Pontiac, they were sold and made exactly like they would have been if they were. The dealer did not recieve the car until after it was converted. I have watched ebay and on several occasions an 89 GTA 350 vert will get higher bids than a 91 or 92 Trans Am vert with similar options & only a 305...
They made 139 GTA or Trans Am L98 verts and 42 Formula 350 verts.

The original EBay listing was 140124886203. Sorry I forgot to mention it.
