HELP WITH SUB FRAME CONNECTORS!!

Hey all, I definitely need some help deciding on the best choice to improve my suspension on my 1989 gta vert. I have had the car for 2 years, and have got her lookin pretty good, but I have always been very dissatisfied with the very bumpy and squeaky ride. It really takes the pleasure out of driving this rare beauty. I am no mechanic, but I am aware about sub frame connectors. I have followed some previous threads, and understand that the allstons from tds would probably be my best bet. Would these sfc's make a big difference? What other recommendations to improve and smooth out the ride? BTW, I also have a 1992 firebird vert for 5 years now , and the suspension is light years better than the 89 gta vert.

Alstons. From Top Down Solutions

I've researched this topic quite extensively and everybody seems to be very satisfied by Alstons.

I just got them installed, and there is very little, to NO squeaking and flex is minimized 99 percent. Now when you go over uneven road you go over it like a hard top. Very pleased with them.

The shop that welded them in was just amazed and happy that they fit so perfectly. It was their first set of subframe connectors that was easy to do.

Re: HELP WITH SUB FRAME CONNECTORS!!

Agreed, TDS's convertible SFCs removed alot if not all of the squeaking and rattling. To me, it's not as tight as a hardtop car but it's as tight if not tighter than any T-top car I've ridden in, even the low mileage cars. The left side was easy..the right side one, not so much...but it's done and worth every penny.

Re: HELP WITH SUB FRAME CONNECTORS!!

Be sure to SPECIFY, when you oder them, you need the convertible ones. Hardtop SFCs won't fit convertibles, due to the factory "SFCs". Just extra sheetmetal.

The ones from TDS rock and you don't need to specify type only color. Also a STB helps out a bit. I did notice after I put it on. I already had the TDS SFC's.

Agreed. Make sure you get them welded in. Even then there will still be a little bit of flex (at least in my cas). With no roof support like our hartop brothers have, two bars under the car won't take out all of the flex.

Sure makes a noticeable improvement though.

Re: HELP WITH SUB FRAME CONNECTORS!!

Thanks for all the responses on this thread. I will definitely be going with the Alstons from Top down. My next ?? is how much labor cost is it to install, weld these in? Approx how much time should they take a good shop? And what type of mechanic should I look for to do this? Thanks, Rob.

Re: HELP WITH SUB FRAME CONNECTORS!!

Usually an exhaust shop could do it. Just look around and call around. I called body and frame shops who did not know what Sub frame connectors were. I ended up explaining to them what they were. YOu don't want to take you car there. Just look for a good exhaust shop, they should be able to do it. You are probably looking between 100-150 to get them installed (no friends). If you have friends than probably cheaper.
