New/Bad Top installation
Hey Guys,
Well, i had just bought 91 RS Conv. and when i got it, the driverside cloth had been pulled away from the frame where it sits on the tannue. (see pic)
I used a 2-part epoxy (waterproof) and re-attached it all, and although the repair whent great, i see now why it pulled away. Between the driver window and the back window, the top is VERY tight. I have to force the back to close. and it is so tight it sounds like a drum when you flick it.
Needless to say, it's hard to close the back. I have to force the pin down into the hole (about 4 inches). this is causing the release mechanism to not work. I have to crawl underneith the tannue and fiddle with it.
Anyone got any suggestions? Should the top stretch out eventually? Any mods i can do to release mech? or another style of release mech that might work?

Re: New/Bad Top installation
I just installed a new top on my vert myself, so I know a little bit about em.
When the new top comes, the distance between the seam at the drivers door pillar, and the seam around the 5th bow is pre determined by the top manufacturer. You would have to unglue it at the pillar and move it back a little. But them it will not look right at the pillar side. How old is the top? You could unglue it at the front bow, and give it a little slack, but you will probably see the old crease after you do this. I had to reglue my front bow a little looser after I was done because it was too tight, but It had only been glued for one night. So it worked out OK.
