New to this board. I never really realized what I have sitting out in the garage I guess. It is an 87 convertible 305 TPI 5 spd. It has the 20th anniversary map pocket. I bought it 5 years ago with 16,000 miles on it for $8500. Today it has 21,000 miles on it. The only thing I have done to it was put 18" Chrome IROC wheels on it. I kept the original brown/gold painted wheels in the garage.
If anybody wants a set of 16" chrome Iroc wheels with tires with 1,000 miles on them let me know.............asking $650 plus shipping.

I think now $8500 for a 16K car would be a steal of a deal.

Hi!
Greetings from Estonia!
Just bought 87' 20th Anniversary Iroc-Z convertible. Not much is known about previous history, except originally ordered in switzerland and four years ago imported to Estonia. Car is in very bad shape. Last four years it just stayed in the front of my friend house and now he was ready to sell it.
About my car:
- 5.0 TBI
- 4-speed ATM
- European gauges (km/h speedo, temperature gauge on Celsius)
- 20th anniversary logo on map pocket
Will post some pics and questions soon

I'm happy with it. Glad to join the 3rd gen club.

All the talk of what it is worth is simple, what ever someone is willing to pay, I saw an 89 go for 20K. A 1990 with 13,000 mile went for 26K at an auction in Palm Beach.

Mine is a red 5 speed that I have owned since 1989!
Would never give it up.

I am the second owner of my '87 IROC-Z 'vert s/n 1G1FP31FXHN153115. Bought it in 1988 from a Chevy Dealership in Tulsa OK that had repossesed it from a DOCTOR so the story goes. The used car dealer on the lot didn't know what they had and a couple months after it was purchased, the salesman called back and wanted to know if it was for sale. It has been a "NO" ever since. Black with grey interior, 305 TPI, 5 Speed and 3.08 posi. Original except it had a 06 Aqua stripe over the original lower body pinstriping. Has the map pocket that says "20th Anniversary Commemoritive Edition". Repainted it a couple years ago to freshen it up. Love those warm sunny days, already had it out this year. I don't know what "number" it is, but to me, it's #1.

Going to look at a Formula vert tomorrow.
I just bought an 89 TTop 350 for a project build but this might be too good to pass up. Even with the issue it has, $8500 might be worth it.

Super nice (looking) car there. Been watching it for some time. I want to think it is one of only 2 Formula/LB9 Convertibles with the Tan top.Originally Posted by fozzi58

Just got back from seeing the car. For a car with 120k on the clock & almost 25yo, its pretty clean, but it is showing some age.. The owner had some internet paperwork and showed that 16 305 TPI A4s were built in 89 (which sounds about right). I have no way to know if 2 were white with tan tops, but I will take your word for it. I really like the car. It runs strong but the interior needs some help. No front floor mats and the owner has been using it that way which is wearing out the front carpet - I was kinda pissed he didn't even throw some KMart floor mats in there just to protect the factory carpeting.Originally Posted by okfoz

The patches on the top are from pinch points that created holes in the original top. The mechanism for the top works flawlessly. The body is in great shape with a couple of small dings on one of the fenders. Paint is starting to fade a bit but its somewhat expected even though its garage kept.
The window moulding is cracked on both doors all along the perimeter of the window and the inside door moulding is starting to crack as well but it isn't as bad. The engine bay is OK but needs a bath real bad. Its a 1G2 VIN as I saw the label under the hood.
I should have paid more attention to the car but the guy was a Pontiac nut and we kept breaking into conversation about his 68 original paint GTO in bay 2 of his garage, his son's 3rd gen, and my LS1 vert. No test drive and I didn't lay down to look at the underside as this was my first visit and I did't want to break his ***** over a sale that may not come to fruition.
My biggest problem would be getting rid of the 89 350 project I just bought. I don't have the space to maintain 3 cars otherwise I would have taken it from him today. Second problem is his $8500 asking price. I'm sure walking up with $7k in dead green presidents might change his mind but he might just keep the car as well.
If buy this car then "project" is out the window and I basically have 2 cars I can't modify - that was the whole reason I bought the 350 in the first place. There's no way I take a car that "16 were made" and start chopping into it. While I would be spending more initially on the car the wife would be a lot happier with me pulling a running car into our garage than whats in there now.
Decisions decisions.....

Any markings/lables or similar on yours ? Mine has nothing..Bought it 22 years ago and the previous owner claimed it was converted by Choo Choo Customs using ASC parts, however there is no proof anywhere of who actually did it.

Unfortunately narrowing down how many were made might be an issue...
1) ASC numbered the early cars, unfortunately, according to an ASC employee they did not care if it was a Camaro or a Firebird, and number 60 could be a Firebird, and number 61 was a Camaro... They simply took the next sticker and put it on the next car.
2) ASC did not seem to keep track of the non-production 86 Camaros or Firebirds, it was the pilot program and it seems other than numerically numbering them with a dash plaque.
3) Keeping track of the Camaros and Firebirds started in 1987...
I do have record of 3 of the Camaros for 1986,,, the VINS I have end with 0959, 3371 and 2974.

Hey John - you still maintain these are the correct numbers for '87 convertible production?

I have some of it. 1989 Firebirds I have the ASC Dealer Log so most of my good information is for 89. However I do have a list of Firebird Convertibles for 87 & 88, and I keep track of the 1986 Camaros and Firebirds as well as the 1987 IROC 350 cars...

GM never put the 5.7 in front of a T5 5 speed due to the torque that the bigger motor put out. If it is a factory car with a 5 speed, it would have the 5.0 in it. Those 5 speeds are not very durable. I have broken mine twice.Originally Posted by Jeff Nabors

I will admit that indeed the 5 speed was not the strongest of transmissions. However I owned a Formula 5 Speed that someone installed a 350 in and it was fine, of course I did not drive it hard either, but it would get up and go pretty darn good.

Power windows work. Power locks dont. Air con/air broken.
Owner i believe got custom striped painted on? Im not sure. I'm thrown off because the front bumper has a little design where the racing stripes end. And there is a small face of a monkey in there too. Super weird
Apparently one of the previous owners put a 350 engine in it. No other performance mods. Basically stock. Has corvette wheels i believe?
Puttin the top up and down on this thing sucks though. 😂
