Anyone ever removed the tonneau trim from the metal surface I know its glued on but will I murder it if I remove it?

No, just find a loose spot and work your way across. Mine was a zig-zag pattern of glue and easily popped from one zig to the next zag.

I got it off pretty easily now to find a thin rubber/vinyl to replace the cover on it

Sounds good, post so pictures of the process and end results.
Might I recommend Marine grade Vinyl, I used it once on a older convertible I used to have an it held up well.

Well I didn't take any pix because it was sooooo easy and I couldn't find the camera the tonneau trim came off with a easy tug(be easy with it will crack)I normally get fabic from a boat upholstry place he found the exact fabric to replace it with then I got some trim glue 3M spray adhesive and laid it on like a highschool prom queen I used structural bathroom glue the guy at the boat place reccommended it.Then I stuck in on,I also laid some wood blocks ontop of it with some weight to cure looks like it came from the factory
