Tonneau Release Switch replacement options???
The plastic switch for my Tonneau Cover on the 91 broke off this morning. FORTUNATELY it did pop open before the black switch fell to the seat. I found a replacement for a Camaro and assume this would also work for the Firebird... but it's $45.00!! http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...roducts_id=156 Are there any other sources anyone is aware of besides the junkyard? I don't really want to spend another $45.00 on it if I don't have to. It's been a money pit this year.
Fortunately I still love the car though.

just use a hatch switch then. That is what my 87 had because they didn't have a switch made yet.

I pulled it apart some over lunch and snapped the plastic piece that broke off back in place and it's holding so far. It does look like the hatch release on the link above will work. Hoping to find a cheaper alternative... but I'm not going to "rig" it to make it work. I'd rather have the right switch in there.

well the hatch switch is the correct switch, with the wrong decal on it.....
they are identical and I have used them interchangably to troubleshoot issues

yeah if you can find one with no decal on it already that would actually look correct anyway. I thought I saw somewhere before somone was making a decal kind of like a temp. tattoo design that replaces the small graphic on it.

huh...I

wow, what happened there? Anyway, I have the plain switch - worn away graphics. Did the TDS replacement, but haven't put it in yet. Would be nice to find one with the right graphics, but I'll settle for what I have, I guess for now. I had asked on another thread about clearcoating the switches to protect the graphics. Good suggestion was somebody did the clear nail polish. Had lasted 7 years and counting.

The switch is exactly the same for coupe/t top/or convertible.Only difference is the icon.Earlier verts most likely had the one with the car hatch popped on it before they changed to the one with the tonneau.Mine was all worn off and I currently have a nice one with a good icon from a coupe in there. However I also have a nice vert one with tonneau icon that was pulled from a 92 RS junkyard vert
