Carb or TBI?

Hey i got a '92 Camaro RS about a year ago and i'm looking to tune it up a little bit to give it a little bit more horses under the hood. should I stay with the stock TBI that is on it or go for a four barrel Carb? It's on a 305 if that matters.

Thanks, that helps out a lot. I want to make it a true American Muscle machine.

You're going to get a plethora of responses when asking a question such as this. Some favor injection, others prefer a carb.

Since you're asking a personal preference question I'll tell you mine: injection. I tossed around the idea of ditching the TBI for a carb on my pickup. Fastforward a little bit, I have now burned somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 chips for my truck's TBI computer. Granted, there is room for improvement, but I'm getting a little better every few chips or so.

What's wrong with the TBI? If it works just put a fresh cap, rotor, plugs and wires on it.

I think it was Fast355 whom had a thirdgen running 11's on a TBI 305. Don't hold me to that, but if IIRC that was the case....

Re: Carb or TBI?

A 350 Vortec will do wonders, get one from a 96 - 98 Full size truck and it will wake your car right up... If your able to get a new intake and just use everything else then your ready to go. Of course you might have to change injectors, but the 96-98 Vortec engines were no slouch.

I am not sure what setup the Vortec engines used, if it was the same basic system as the earlier 350 engine with better heads or a SFI type.

Of course if you want to go whole hog, get an LSx Engine...

Personally I prefer the stealth look of a stock engine... Then smok'em
