Looking at a vert trans am...questions.
sold my 91 Camaro because times were tough and really needed cash. The car had alot of problems and just needed alot of work. My father recently came across what he told me was an 83 trans-am convertible. I went to see it today and it is a very straight car. The top needs some love but its definately drivable. brown and tan cloth interior. Anyways the guy said it wont smog due to carb issues and it has a 4 speed grind cam in it, it really runs well no exhaust leaks etc auto trans. He wants 600 for it. Anyways I was wondering what engine models were available this year? Is it an LG4? It has the hood (vent?) on it if and rear spoiler if that means anything. 600 bucks sound reasonable? car has 110k on it I think.

Is it a 4 seat or a 2 seat convertible?
There were a hand full of companies in the 80's doing conversions on these cars. I can think of 5 off the top of my head, and that does not include ASC.
One thing to consider is most of the aftermarket conversions will be difficult to get replacement parts for. Chances are if things are broken you will have to find a fabricator to make parts that were specific to that conversion. There are some cars that were more popular, like the Autoform and the Matrix3 cars behind ASC cars. Other manufacturers like Hi-Line, Greenwood and Classic Custom Coach will be more of a challenge. The highest production for the non factory cars was (Autoform) about 600.
Good luck
