Dear Camaro fellows, here is a quest to revive and old discussion) My name is Alexander Myshkin, I am a Russian automotive enthusiast interested in youngtimers of 80’s and 90’s. One of my interests is car collectibles of the 80’s, sources of which I try to identify (bubble gum inserts, calendars etc). One of them is Camaro convertible. I have found your community while I was searching for information about Camaro, and joined it specially to get in touch with you. And I believe you are one of world experts in Camaro. Could you please assist me in defining of the attached images source? Most likely it is a rare advertisement or press photos in some magazine of the 80’s or rare brochure, issued between 1981-1985, because these collectible items were issued in 1986. So most likely it is non-factory coach convertible. Please don't pay any attention to description and characteristics below picture. Creators of this series often mixed them. I would be extremely thankful for any ideas or links to brochure, magazine, press photo etc... I have searched hundreds of them, but still no result. 100% Turks who created this series didn't take pictures themselves, they just copied them from car magazines or brochures of that time. But which? 40 pictures out of 50 from this series I managed to identify (I found source), but Camaro is among "hard stuff"...
Maybe you could identify at least producer of this convertible - ASC, R.Straman etc? It could be also "official" pre-serial of 1986, but I have doubts. Sorry if you consider this as offtop or if I violate any of forum rules. Thank you very much, and have a great day! You are welcome to visit our website in Russian dedicated to bubble gum car inserts, youngtimers, automotive design and automotive heritage of 80’s and 90’s: www.societeturbo.com Best regards, Alexander

It looks like a Hi-Line Kustoms conversion. Here is a similar pic, Unfortunately there were several companies doing convertibles, and it could be one of several..
Great! I never heard of that coachbuilder before. Tried to search, but there is just a couple of images in the Web. Does anyone have any brochures or ads of customs Camaro Covertibles before 1986?
I just purchased a black 1984 Camaro Z28 convertible which has the Matrix serial number in the door jam. The car is just out of long-term storage and is in super shape other than the top and a few scratches from storage. I have never seen another 84' black Matrix Z28. It has 65K original miles currently. According to CarFax it had 62K miles on it in 1993. Do you have any idea of the production numbers for the Matrix? Is there a top that will fit it? Anything helps Thanks!

I am 99% sure it will not fit, you will probably need a custom top to be made. A Good upholstery shop will need to make it.
Even with the ASC cars there were 3 different tops...

The next most popular would be the Autoform Convertibles. Unique with its 2 seat approach.
I have a 86 autoform conversion Z28 then I'm looking to sell. I'm in Michigan Detroit area if you're interested contact me email is Jmar48021@gmail.com
Lots of great convertible pics. I apologize, I am new here guys and not very familiar with the platform.... Can someone point me to a record of a 1987 or 1988 Convertible (ASC) Firebird FORMULA w/L98 in Yellow (51U)? Feel free to elaborate or direct me to a resource on Thirdgen.org or externally. It seems like this is a question that has probably already been asked, researched and answered on here.

Re: (non factory) 3rd Gen Convertibles
ASC only converted 3rd gens that came with factory RPO code CC1 T-tops.
You could only get the Firebird Formula 350 with factory T-tops in 1989, 1991, 1992 . Wasn't an available option for 1987, 1988, or 1990. ASC made no convertible Firebirds for the short 1990 model year and you could get a 1991/1992 Firebird Formula 350 with factory T-tops but ASC was doing official Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am convertibles by then and only on base model Firebirds and Trans Ams. Not Formulas or GTAs. 1990 through 1992 ASC didn't make any aftermarket Firebird convertibles.

Thank you Airwolfe. Reading through other threads, it appears that some CC1 // L98s combinations made it to consumers in Canada for model years 87 and 88. Is this true? And is it possible that there were other approved vendors other than ASC, that turned some of those CC1s into convertibles, either here or in Canada?

Re: (non factory) 3rd Gen Convertibles
From what I understand for the 1987 model year you could get the CC1/L98 combination on Z49 Canadian Export market GTAs. I don't think you could have got it on Formula or Trans Am though or nobody ordered one that way for 1987. I don't think CC1/L98 was available on Z49 Firebirds in 1988. I've seen a 1987 CC1/L98/Z49 GTA. I've never seen or heard of any for 1987 Formulas or Trans Ams or 1988 on any Firebird for the Canadian market.
Canada not being subject to US EPA rules and laws could get things different from us in the USA. Canada also seems to have complete records for their Firebirds whereas over here some idiot thought it would be a good idea to throw most of our Firebird records away. I think someone here searched the 87/88 records for Canada and only found 1987 GTAs with CC1/L98.
I'm only into ASC convertibles so I have no idea about what other companies might have done.

Here's one that's a little different. Sitting at mechanic or impound yard in the DC suburbs. She's certainly seen better days.
