Stroking it - I think

Need to know the basics of what frame stuff I need to do to stoke the thing. I got off the outside sub frame connector and ca not find a new one. A buddy will make a close match but stainless. I really hate this the car is so stock and when I pulled off the squished frame connector/brace no squished steel undernieth . It looks like we may just make a X frame in stainless and cover the sub frame in stainless. I hate to do it but cant get the part and time is an issue. I don"t want a roll bar or roll cage I want to enjoy it and just bark a little but to my disapointment because I have not time and cant find the part I must just get my welder in play.Anyone have any schematics on a full frame tie and cover system ? With the top down she will go vrooom so any other weld tips would be helpful . This third gen for info and parts is a lot harder than I thought . I guess I am getting too old or something. I guess I will throw in a 12 bolt and 383 and rock crusher if they fit. This hurts but I tried . Just cant find a ASC outer frame rail from door to door and with those dimples can make an exact match. No sense to drop another couple grand into it if its not stock to me.

Re: Stroking it - I think

Some random thoughts about your predicament.

I assume that you are referring to the factory SFC for your car... I know that they are not exactly the same, as they are longer, but I believe the structure is very similar to a Cavalier, or Sunbird convertible from the same era... You may be able to find one of those in a junkyard and then shorten it... As there were many more of those cars made than the F-body.

The only reason why I suspect this is the trim pieces are the same for both the F-body and the J-body when without ground effects, the trim tabs are the same, and they appear to be very close dimensionally... Like I said, they are longer on the J-body, so they would need to be shortened and they would need to be painted, once you get them shorter... but its better than nothing..

All you could do is see if you could find one in a junkyard, take some measurements and see if it would work at this point...

Re: Stroking it - I think

You had said before that you were going to keep this car absolutly stock, as in matching the build sheet. Now you are talking about installing a 383 and a 12 bolt??? Odd....
