1 of 13 ? i have a dilema...need help

I recently inputed my VIN number into Compnine.com and came back telling me my car is 1 of 13 with exact options as mine...1990 Rs Camaro Convertible red/ grey cloth interior. Needless to say that threw a HUGE monkey wrench in my plans for car. I wanted to change interior to black leather with red stitching, 98-02 SS hood, wood kit on dash, nice audio system, upgraded suspension from spohn and of course killer wheels for a modern pro tour look. eng. tranny.exhaust were all replaced /rebuilt by previous owner. Now, i'm hard pressed whether to modify this car or not ? CAN SOMEONE give me some guidance ? Any Opinion is welcomed and appreciated

1 of 13 is one of the highest numbers I've seen their website deliver... Most of the time it's 1 of 1. F Compnine, do what you want. Every car is rare according to them.

Yeah I don't wanna burst your bubble but I gotta agree with Drew (his answer was very blunt though). Judging by the different option choices/trim levels these cars had, you'd be very hard pressed to find two absolutely identical ones. For instance, an IROC-Z with just the AM radio is very hard to find, but does that mean its really desirable?
But it might be worth keeping stock if its got low original miles and in very good shape.
Just build the car to whatever makes you happy.

I agree with the above replies. That website does a pretty darn good job comparing our rides to determine the number built. Such a good job in fact, that when all of the many RPO codes are run it is fairly easy to come up with extremely low build counts. Unfortunately, 95% of the RPO codes that make the build counts so low are insignificant ones that don't fetch big $$$.

Have fun and enjoy your ride.

Unless the vehicle is about 1990 or newer, or is a Canadian vehicle, they currently don't have records.

Is there a place that can do the same thing as Compnine for American built cars?

Mines 1 of 1 too, but it does have some 'rare or desireable' options.

It's not stopping me from putting a new motor, rearend, interior, etc... in it. Do what you want.

Re: 1 of 13 ? i have a dilema...need help

It is the total combination of RPOs that Compnine comes back with as "1 of XX". If you found that ONE person today that wanted THAT EXACT combination in your EXACT year model, then yeah....It would be "rare", to THAT person.

I have "first year GTA" but that doesn't stop me from cutting & making the car how *I* want it. Enjoy your car, don't worry about the value & you'll be much more relaxed & happier in life.

All ThirdGens are American built. Van Nuys, California and Norwood, Ohio are the two assembly lines that built these cars. The Norwood plant shutdown after 1987.

Compnine's database has nearly all 1990s and the majority of 1991/1992. They also have Canadian VINs for this and previous years.

If your VIN isn't in their database, then you will need to contact PHS (Pontiac Historical Services) for Pontiacs older than 1987. For Pontiacs 1987 and newer you need to contact General Motors Media Archives. I believe General Motors Media Archives can do all Camaros:
http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/

Note that the information you receive from General Motors Media Archives will be different than what you will see from Compnine. Compnine lists all RPO codes tied to the VIN. The General Motors Media Archives will show some RPOs tied to your VIN, as well as other information (ordering/receiving dealership information, etc.)

Re: 1 of 13 ? i have a dilema...need help

One thing to consier is there were some RPO's that were not used on all cars, even if they were identical otherwise... For example there were RPO's for a 10 day delay in payments, an RPO for some years cars that were made in particular weeks, for example week 1, 2, 3, and 45 thru 52 all had an RPO...

Here are some examples of useless RPO's for 1990:
VQ1: DEALER ASSISTANCE, WITH HOLDBACK
VQ2: DEALER ASSISTANCE, HOLDBACK NOT APPLICABLE
VC3: PRICE/FUEL ECON, US TERRITORIES
ZV1: STATEMENT OF ORIGIN MANUFACTURE
Z31: IDENTIFICATION PRICE SHEET ADVANCE
