Serious Alignment Problem?

I have a 91 Camaro with what I presume to be some serious misalignment. I'm the 4th or 5th owner and the trunk lid doesn't close all the way (although it does lock but leaves approx an inch gap between the trunk lid and top portion of the tail light assembly. Is there any chance this is causing the trunk lid to be in an improper position/angle that is causing the tonneau cover to rub/grind on the trunk lid itself?

Am I just better off letting a body shop tackle this?

Re: Serious Alignment Problem?

Does the trunk lid align along the sides? If it does, you may just be missing a piece that goes in that space. I don't know what the 91 Camaro convertible spoiler looks like, but on my 91 Trans Am, there is a relective strip about 1" wide that runs along the top of the taillights for their entire width. Is this where your "gap" is located? I will try to attach a picture in a follow-up note.

Re: Serious Alignment Problem?

It is parallel across the back of it (the gap) and the trunk is aligned. I'll see if I can get some pics posted tomorrow of what it looks like.

Here is a pic of the rear of my TA. The bright strip across the top of the tail lights is what I was referring to. It is about an inch wide and fills the gap between the bottom edge of the spoiler and the top of the tail light lenses.

Re: Serious Alignment Problem?

mine doesn't have that because yours appears to go a bit underneath the back of the rear quarter panels. I should be able to put some pics up by monday since i haven't gotten around to it yet.
