I went to the pull-a-part in Baton Rouge yesterday and found that they have an 89 convertible red iroc-z that had a five speed in it.

I talked to the people there and asked if I could buy the whole car. They said they will not sell whole vehicles. I asked what happens when the car has no more parts on it and they said they crush the car for scrap. Even when getting rid of the car they still will not sell it to me. Is there a way to save this car? Hopefully someone here knows someone from Baton Rouge and can help save this car. I live in Lafayette which is seventy miles from this parts yard so it will be difficult for me to do.

the link to pull-a-parts site. If you search the site it is the camaro on row 306 placed on yard 2-24-2011

Guess you could buy it piece by piece! Really though, you would think there would be someway. Like they say, everyone has their price.

It might be a "Cash for clunkers" car... Are all the vehicles on their lot under the same rules?

Most all Cash for Clunkers cars are already crushed - C4C dictated that the car had to be destroyed after a certain period (long since expired).

Pull a part won't sell the entire vehicle, but they will sell half. I went in there looking one time for a rear clip (windows back) for a Mercedes and they said YES, for like $300.

I would strongly encourage you to go and buy EVERY convertible-specific part you can off of it and store 'em. Even if it costs you $500 for those parts, they will only increase in value. If I was even close to Baton Rouge, I'd be headed there now.

Re: Can anyone save this iroc convertible?
I was told that they do not sell any whole vehicles but they would sell the front or rear half of the car. I dont think that it would be saving the car if I cut it up. As far as stripping the convertible-specific parts the frame of the top was broken and they wanted $130 dollars for it broke. The tonneau cover is there and in fair shape but I didn't ask how much for that piece. What else could be taken off and stored? The rear decklid was already gone as well as the side pieces that run on top of the quarter panels and match the convertible-specific spoiler. Makes me sad to see one of these sent to crusher as they are almost as rare as an albino zebra with wings and a horn on it's head.

I would yank the tonneau and any switches/wiring that I could. Shame to see one go that way...

LOL Go there with a friend and you buy the front and he buys the back, tell the yard you will cut it later at home.

Over 10 years ago the wifes cad was T boned. My son found a perfect replacement with a blown engine at a yard and they would not sell the whole thing. Would have worked out nice as her car was very low mileage. So she ended up with a newer red T bird.

I think they make so much more off the parts, plus the scrap steel money, that they would lose money selling the whole car. They make a fortune off the core charges alone.

Re: Can anyone save this iroc convertible?
when doing buisness with "pull-a-part" you run into their BS or as they call them "rules"their stance is this ,,they sell parts NOT cars.now here in TN we get around that by cutting the car into two halves ,i buy one half,my buddy buys the other half.(because they wont sell you both halves)

Wow the tail light look good! I would like them! Is the driver side good also?
Wonder how much for them? Maybe you could find out and buy for me. I will pay for them and shipping. If they are both in great shape, no cracks.. Thanks

I sell them for around $20.oo each side (Depending on condition.) Z-28/IROC grid style for around $35.oo per side (Also depending on condition.) I usually snag all I can from the junkyards (They have me on speed-dial! LOL)
