Re: 91 z28 convertible lid popper question
i took a look at it and when i hit the botton to pop the latches for the cover i can hear the relay click but the selonoids don't do anything....is it possible that the wires on the botton are backwards?
do the selonoids pop in or out to pop the latch?

they pull in to release the latch it is possible that you have your wires inverted.

Re: 91 z28 convertible lid popper question
switch the wires around and nothing....i can squeeze the solinoids by hand so they aren't locked up
is there a fuse between the button and the solonoids?
Is it possible for the relay to click with the botton but not energize the solonoids?
and i assume these babies self ground since they are one wire?

The screws that hold the solenoid to the body of the car arethe grounds...And you can't assume the solenoids are good just because you can squeeze them.

If the adjustments are set to pull the top in too much, the solenoids won't be able to release it. You can see if they work when the cover is raised manually, or try pushing down on the cover when hitting the button.

Yeah, try pushing down on the lid when you click it. Mine sometimes does not release if I did not push the top in enough prior to closing the lid (it pressures up on the lid). Solenoids wont release it when the toneau lid is being pushed up from inside.

Re: 91 z28 convertible lid popper question
Check the trunk.
The wire goes from the relay in the center console, through a connector in the trunk, then back up to the solenoids. If this wire is disconnected, the relay will click, but the solenoids won't pop.
I believe this is supposed to keep you from opening the tonneau cover while the trunk is open. But don't quote me on that.
Wire from relay travels on drivers side back to trunk, back towards front of car on the passenger side, and splits to go to the two solenoids right behind the passenger side sail panel.
The wire carries a positive current while the button is pushed. The chassis (of the solenoids) is the ground.
First thing you should do is put a circuit tester on the plug to the solenoid. Does it light up when you push the button? If so, it's your soenoids. If not, check the wire, especially around the trunk latch.
