Tonneau won't open

I just got back from the body shop and my driver seat belt is stuck and won't suck in, or out. I also found that my tonneau cover will not release, so i think something is stuck. When i click the switch in the middle console i see the passenger side lift up a little, but nothing on the driver side. I don't want to break anything, has anyone ever had this happen before? The body shop did this, but i don't think they can do anything that i can't and im afraid they might break something.

Re: Tonneau won't open

The first thing I would have done is take it back to the body shop if they had worked anywhere near that part of the car.

Mine binds on the passenger side, so I have to slightly lift the passenger side as I push the button to open it. For whatever reason it's out of line on that side and I have never found a way to move it without binding the drivers side. Grease worked for awhile.

Re: Tonneau won't open

I would suspect that possibly there is an adjustment of some sort. I have not looked at mine, but when I try to pop the tonneau I have to pull up on the cover, then it will pop up.

My car there are two cables, one on each side, that you can access by lowering the back seat and then on each side there is a loop you can pull on, I would assume that there are similar cables on other cars as a backup... means of operating the cover when you have a dead battery, or a latch failure...

As for the seat-belt... no clue, it may be a spring problem or something internal to why it would not retract. If it is extended out all the way and the safety momentum latch is engaged and will not disengage, it may be a simple fix of just disengaging the latch and then allow it to retract, if it is a broken spring, you might have to find another seat belt (good luck) or try and repair the one you have... I imagine there are companies that do seat belt repairs out there, especially when you are talking about older cars, someone has to service them...

John

Re: Tonneau won't open

I think the seat belt is unrelated so i won't worry about that for now. I did find the fuse box and did not see any blown fuse. I also was able to find the manual pull cords and got the top up finally, but still no clicking from the switch in my center console.

Re: Tonneau won't open

Double check that the car is in park..... I know it sounds simple, but the switch is tied into the neutral safety switch.

What was the body shop doing to the car? Was the center console removed?

It sounds like one side is popping up, but can you hear the 'popper' on that side releasing?

John, you don't have to adjust the whole tonneau, just adjust the offending J-hook. Once you have the tonneau centered up, you can fine tune the latching by adjusting the j-hooks. Takes a little time, but it can be done.

Re: Tonneau won't open

center console was not removed. body shop painted the outside. the switch worked after i got it back, but the top was stuck. i think the top being stuck may have causes the solenoid to wear out or something. I do have another post on that issue so we can probably end this threat for now. Thanks. feel free to reply to my other post though :-)

Re: Tonneau won't open

The hangup in mine is not the J hook. A little further back a bolt is touching a bracket just enough to keep the cover from popping up.
