'92 convertible, no tonneu release in center console?

My dad got a 92 Z28 convertible and the interior is all disassembled. One of the first things I noticed was the center console doesnt have a parade top release switch. I've seen somewhere that some years had different setups. Where should we be looking for this?

Re: '92 convertible, no tonneu release in center console?

On late 91 & 92 the tonneau release switch was relocated to be adjacent to the #5 bow pin release. It is easier that way. Instead of unlatching the #5 bow, then having to duck your head and reach in to press the center console tonneau release switch, it is a simple matter of reaching on the tonneau to press the switch to pop the tonneau solenoids.

My bird is like this. Simple to hit both the tonneau and top release at the same time. Only took chevy a few years to catch up to pontiac.

The change was made to both the Camaro and Firebird the same year.

I was wondering, are all Firebirds located there for 1991 & 1992?

How? If Nick's 'vert doesn't have it and mine does? Both 91's? Maybe my production date is later but I didn't think March was that late.

Re: '92 convertible, no tonneu release in center console?

I am not sure on this, but I believe that they may have changed it at or around the same time ASC eliminated the rear plastic pieces and simply went to carpeted cardboard for the rear trunk area. That change was around the same time that the normal production would have started which was around July/August of 1990... I want to remember that some of the 1991's had the rear coupe plastics trimmed for the vert...

Just a thought.

My production date was like March xx 1990. I went to the dealer and found that out, not sure if it makes a difference.
