Tonneau cover won't latch
Been reading all over this forum but can't find a problem quite like mine...my passenger side solenoid for the tonneau latch seems fine, in that I can push it to closed manually and it opens when I hit the release switch, but when I shut the tonneau cover it doesn't lock down. Looks/seems like it's hitting. Any ideas?

Re: Tonneau cover won't latch
If I understand you correctly, it sounds like the tonneau latch on the driver's side is stuck in the closed position even though the cover's pin isn't in it. The cover's pin is hitting the closed latch. Kind'a like trying to close the trunk lid down on a closed trunk latch. Not pretty.
Have you tried returning the latch to the open position by either using the switch, or if that isn't working, the manual release cable. You will likely need to emulate the cover's pin, as if it was in the latch, with your finger or maybe a screwdriver and lifting slightly while trying to open it.
Note; the intention is not to use your finger or screwdriver to "pry" the latch open, only to assist it in moving to the open position.
Good luck. Please reply if it sounds like I'm not reading you right.

Re: Tonneau cover won't latch
Mine did that and it was sticking. I sprayed it with some brake cleaner and cleaned it up and then poured some mobil one 90wt rear end grease on it and worked it around. I had to do my hood latch as well. I guess they all had the same amount of dirt and grime and decided not to work. My solenoid poppers work but would not release the top and now they do with a little help.

Re: Tonneau cover won't latch
Ok, so I finally got around to digging at this problem. Turns out the latch receiver is still working but I think it's just wore out....when I latch it I can still pry it back up with a screwdriver. The driver side I can't. So, any good source for a replacement? How hard are these to swap?

Thanks Lon, I ordered the set. Any instructions you can provide on how to replace would be great.

New problem if anyone can help (Lon?)...got the receiver replaced but it looks like the cable is damaged as well. I think someone had messed with this before...
Anyhow, where do I get a new cable?

Re: Tonneau cover won't latch
Just to close this thread, it turned out the locking pin in the latch receiver failed. The actuator and cable turned out to be fine once I cleared an obstruction caused by a prior speaker install (for once not my mistake!!!). Tonneau latches perfectly again and I eliminated an obnoxious rattle in the process.

Might Try Hawks, or one of the 3rd gen junkyards... you never know what they have. Chances are you will have to do with used. Not sure but I would bet 86-91 would be the same, or similar enough to work, 92 might be different, but maybe not... Without looking into the parts manual..
