87 Formula Vert question
87 Formula Vert question
First post here. I've been looking around for some information on the 87 firebird convertibles. I'm looking at purchasing one in the near future and I'm trying to validate it.
Seller describes car as
87 firebird convertible
350 tpi motor
auto tranny
looks to be dressed as a formula
the wheels are 88 and newer concave style but everything else looks to be correct for an 87.
Just curious since why I can't fiind other info on 87s with a 350.
Vin states it as a 87, 350, coupe,(i assume all firebirds had that designation until 91)

Re: 87 Formula Vert question
It looks like it may be a factory formula 350 car (8th digit in vin will b 8) but a aftermarket company vert top. ASC did them for GM but thats not a ASC top.
Re: 87 Formula Vert question
The seller did state that the top was replaced in 06. When you say its not an ASC top, can you tell if the conversion is different from an ASC conversion or can you just tell that the fabric has been replaced by a non "original" one?
Thanks,

Re: 87 Formula Vert question
The conversion is not a ASC.
ASC has a solid cover that closes over the top when its down.
The pic you have shows a exposed top while down.
Just do a quick google search and youll find the differences.
Here is a shot of my ASC 89 Formula 350 (as I found her)
You can see the diff

Re: 87 Formula Vert question
If it was a factory conversion, the 6th digit of the vin would most likely be a "3". THere may be some Dealer conversions out there that went to ASC, but if it was designated to be a convertible by GM, the vin would be convertible.

Re: 87 Formula Vert question
wouldn't the "modified by asc blah.." sticker be on the drivers door like on my 89 camaro? or did they not do that until later?

Got some more pictures!!! I guess this means that its not an ASC car!!!! What does that mean for its value? Any ideas on who else was doing these conversions???

Thanks for the help!!!!

Re: 87 Formula Vert question
I read the thread about the non asc convertibles. Not sure I see any like this one though. I guess I need to determine if there are any tags on the car that designate who the modifier is.
Thanks,
