Vert Spoiler Alignment

I just picked up this 89 RS Vert yesterday, fairly low mileage. It needs a few modifications, but the thing that is really bugging me the most is the rear spoiler,

Driver side, the decklid sits slightly higher than the rar quarter end caps

Same issue on the passenger side, plus the rear of the passenger side deck lid sticks out past the rear quarter end caps:

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Re: Vert Spoiler Alignment

Hatch alignment is usually the cause of those issues, not the spoiler itself.

I think you are right. I played with the black rubber bumper/stoppers on the trunklid and got the height much closer. Are these rubber stoppers reproduced?

Re: Vert Spoiler Alignment

So I FINALLY got around to working on this today. I got a hatch motor rebuild kit from Lon and TDS, but I'm not sure what's going on with my assembly.

When I got the car, it had a killer vintage alarm system, complete with ignition interlock (which I promptly had professionally removed). Could the thing highlighted in red be part of that alarm? I think it was keeping my hatch from closing completely. The white thing connected to the black bracket is a toggle stitch of some sort, and the bracket fits the motor assemble perfectly. It's very nicely done, but I don't think its factory. The wires were already cut, so it's not doing anything. There is no mention of this part in Lon's rebuild instructions, so it will be omitted when I reinstall.

Thoughts?

Re: Vert Spoiler Alignment

And here is the final result after the rebuild. The driver side is a tiny bit off, the passenger side is dead on. Very happy with the end result.

That plunger switch is what prevents the tonneau cover solenoids from popping while the trunk is open.I just put one on my hatch pull down and now my solenoids actually pop when you push the switch

Interesting. So it's an ASC part from the conversion. Not sure why my wire is cut; I could not find the rest of the wire anywhere. But my tonneau release button works as it should, so I'm gonna leave well enough alone.

Re: Vert Spoiler Alignment

It looks like you could take a wrench and lower the trunk latch catch assembly in the trunk and that would lower the spoiler to the correct height. I think it is a 15mm.

I removed and rebuilt the who assembly, so yeah, I lowered it a bit. Driver side still sits a bit higher than passenger. Passenger side is perfect, so I think I'm gonna have to be content with that.

Re: Vert Spoiler Alignment

It is amazing that our small trunk lids are SOOO HEAVYYY. If someone made one out of fiberglass I would buy it just for the weight savings.
