Tonneau Latches

My tonneau cover will not latch. The latches close but the slightest tug and thy pop open. I've pulled the release levers off the latch completely to eliminate all that stuff. Do I just need new latches? Can thy easily be rebuilt by a DIY'er?

Thanks
Randy

Re: Tonneau Latches

I was having the same problem a few months back and wound up ordering a used set from Lon at top down solutions. I saw no easy way to rebuild them, but you might be more gutsy than me. Good luck!

Re: Tonneau Latches

It could be that the body has flexed (twisted) with age and the J-hookk is not protruding far enough down to properly latch. You'll need to shim the J-hook so it goes down a bit further. Just remove it and either make a shim from some sheet metal to put under the hook or buy some door shims from the HELP section of the auto parts store to shim it. I have sees some J-hooks that came shimmed from the factory.

Re: Tonneau Latches

Thanks Lon but the hinges were just worn out. I removed them and tested them off the car with a screw driver. I ordered a set from you last week and they did the job. It was a pleasure doing business with you!

If you can rebuild them I will send you the old hinges as I have no use for them. I don't know how hard the latches are to come by and am willing to do my part to keep these parts available.

I do not rebuild them. I have a few sets in stock.
