1987 z28 vert. 305 carb. from tpi

replaced pull down motor, guides/bushings, relay and hatch release relay and striker switch. trunk lid releases, motor still want pull up or down. Have 12 volts on red and white,12 volts or orange wire to the compartment light/switch,12 volts on both blue/black wires into the motor. 0 on orange and white to motor. Made 2 long test clips and attached to the contacts of the contact assembly and lowered the lid to make contact with the striker plate. Tested between contacts and from each contact to ground. 0 volts. This should have activated the motor? Is there suppose to be voltage at these contacts during motor operation. I bought the HELM services manuals for a 1987 Camaro but it doesn't go in detail about the hatch pull down functions.
Any suggestions.

Re: hatch pull down replacement
On further testing I have 2 working motors,2 good relays,1 good reverse switch. If I am correct it seems that there is 12v always on the motor via the brn/black and the white/orange is used by the relay to remove the ground and the reverse switch controls
the up down positioning. Now I can remove the trunk lid motor that is on now and start with known good parts,Just wish I knew what the contact assembly does. The HELMS manual show it working with a rear wiper/washer which I don't have.

Now have 2 complete motor assemblies, I took everything off and was able to check the guides/slides for easy movement and the reverse switch for proper settings. Motors have no bind. Just took a little time to get the proper height of the assembly to get the lid pulled down and the hatch release solenoid to work together.

Just so you and anyone else who reads this will understand. The striker plate you mention (located just to the left of the latch) has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the Hatch or trunk pull-down unit. That contact plate powers the HMSL (high mount stop light). If you need help testing the reversing switch, just give me a call and I'll gladly share with you how to test it.

Re: hatch pull down replacement
I came to the same conclusion about that switch .I injected a signal on both sides of the switch/plate closed and open and it always took me to the fuse box or to the 3rd brake light on the spoiler. Thanks for the confirmation

Re: hatch pull down replacement
Yes, thanks, after knowing how the switch worked, the repair was easy, only 1 active component, contacts and 2 springs.

Re: hatch pull down replacement
Top-down? Is that a parts place? I'm not familiar... and as far as the E-bay set, what did you search for to find them?

Thanks. Sorry to jack your thread lol
