V6 verts?

Did the convertibles only come with V8's or were some built with a V6.

1989 is the model year I'm wondering about in case it matters.

It's tough to find the build options for the convertibles anywhere online.

I remember seeing these base model verts around.. They must have had some with V6.. I bet they are rare..

Re: V6 verts?

My 86 firebird is a 2.8L multiport V6. Anyone know why the V6 and V8 radiators are opposite each other. The V6 filler neck is on the drivers side. I'm having a hard time finding an OEM style radiator.

Good God, why??

My 5.0 is slow enough, I can't imagine purposefully putting one of those in.

Unless you meant they were converted into V8s.. that would make more sense.

Re: V6 verts?

It was a downgrade option. You got some credit/$$ back. I looked at a couple when i was shopping for mine, 91 and a 89 (i think).

My 91 is a V6, yes it's slow. But honestly it's not that bad, It gets up and around just fine. Where the lack of power shows is on the highway. Going to pass someone you need to get a running start at it. Up to 75mph it's tolerable. I always tell myself that for it's time it probably wasn't nearly as noticeable compared to the other things on the road at the time.

Mine just turned 53,000 miles the last time we had it out. I had every intention on swapping an Ls1/T56 into it, but it just runs and drives so well. It cruises great and floats along...I don't want to loose that and make it all hot-roddy. Car only comes out when the top can be down.

Re: V6 verts?

I waited 15 years to swap mine because the ol v8 just kept running. It was the smog testing that broke the final straw, but I wish I hadn't waited so long. Don't wait too long.

Re: V6 verts?

For the Camaros, the V8 only LG4/A4 and LB9/MM5 were for 1987 only, from 88-92 I believe the V6 was an option for every year. They pop up every now and then.

Re: V6 verts?

I had a blue 89 Firebird 2.8 five speed in College. Now I have a white 1989 bird with a 2.8 automatic. I love this website.
