I removed my vert spoiler for the first time since I've owned it, and found a surprise waiting for me. It's been off before. And repaired.
Two of the repaired studs broke off.
What should I use to secure these back in place? The bolts line up nice, so seems like an easy repair, just looking for the right product. And what prep?
I think your two best options would be to use a flexible bumper repair kit or that type of adhesive from one OR to replace that gasket on the front and back of the spoiler with good 3M double sided automotive mounting tape. Yes the tape REALLY works. I had a SN95 Mustang years ago that I put those side scoop covers on and they called for using the 3M tape. I was sure that they would fly off on the highway but they held for years at highway speeds.
I would not use an epoxy unless it was panel bond but that's $60 for the two tubes so pricey for the relatively small amount you'd use.
I had a hell of a time getting that double-sided tape off! I agree, it really holds well. That's how I broke the studs - didn't know the tape was there, and was pushing from the underside. I plan on using that method again. I'd just like to also get the studs secure.
I did use J-B Weld epoxy and it has held well for about 4 years now . I did not use 3M tape. I have put about 25,000 miles since the repair. My rubber plugs on the under side covering the spoiler stud access holes self destructed when I tried to remove them and I can not find replacements, if anyone knows a source for those plugs I would appreciate the info.
I used flexible bumper repair as well.Worked great, i noticed base on the studs is tapered.Wider at the bottom. This prevents it from slipping out, but you have to build the adhesive high enough around the base. One of mine was spinning in place and would not come off. Thats how a noticed its tapered. So i decided to cut teeth around the base before re-installing.This way if it ever breaks loose again hopefully it wont spin, allowing the nut to come off.
Will I was not able to post a picture. Stupid computer. You should have on the underneath side of your trunk lid four round holes that allowed access to the nuts to attach the spoiler. Those four holes had black plastic plugs in them. Those are the button plugs. You can also try to google the word as will.

I have mine, but they're a little beat up.Was just curious how close the button plugs are to the originals. They look identical to the hatch lid pieces, but smaller diameter, it seems.
The plugs that I purchased from Ace Hardware look very similar to what was installed by ASC. Unless someone is looking for a 1000 point car, there is little difference. Ace has a variety of sizes.
