Hi all. I recently picked up a 91 Firebird conv that needs a lot of love. One of the things it needs is a new top and I figured I would give it a try. So far it doesn't seem too bad except the 5 screws I need to drill out because they broke when trying to take them out but one thing I am not sure about is the # 5 bow. It looks like it has been bent up where the pin goes into the tonneau. Is the bow supposed to lay flat all around the tonneau cover? I did try to bend it flat but it wasn't budging. I do have an extra top frame I picked up years ago and it too looks like it is bent in the same area. Are they supposed to be this way? I dont see any reason why they would be made this way and what are the odds of having two top frames bent the same way? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ive noticed mine is that way too, but not as much though.Maybe around half that. Seems the way it is would make it harder to latch the striker, especially once the seal is installed.I noticed that on mine when i replaced the old seal.It closed much easier w/out it.
Look at your striker and its alignment to the catch in the tonneau. Maybe the striker is not centered on the catch mechanism or, if its alignment is OK, maybe the catch needs a spacer or two to move it in a downward direction.
