Hello! I just picked up an 88 'vert with near perfect original paint. The only problem is the previous owner had the car wrapped in an ugly vinyl color. When I removed it, the paint came off of the plastic pieces of the rear spoiler and front bumper. I'd like to remove them to prep and repaint instead of masking off the rest of the car. It looks like the rear spoiler side pieces are just attached with two screws and 3M? I' really don't want to break any of this since I haven't found replacements on aftermarket sites. Can anyone confirm this?

 

Yep... You got it right... but there are 3 screws... one at the front, one at the rear, one under the trunk rubber at the front of the trunk opening.

I also have an 88 vert. And I did remove them for paint.

The tape is pretty tough... You have to go slow and avoid too much pressure on the sheet metal... Use wide removal tools.

 

I don’t know why you would cover up that paint. From what I can tell the paint was perfect before.

 

What kind of tape did you use to reattach the pieces?

 

I used 3m trim tape... Available at auto parts stores... Nothing crazy.

But plan it and test it a lot because once it sticks... It's really hard to adjust.

I put a few less pieces than stock so I could remove it if I wanted too...
