Overheated, something bad happened.

Well my car had been acting weird all night. The danged fan relays were working but like.....maybe an hour later i goto McDonalds to grab some food and i see the engine temp goto 220.. I don't think anything of it cause i was stopped. Then it kept on climbing and i didn't know wtf was happening so we turn on the heater hopeing that it'd cool down some. Well nothing i could do cause the jerk off infront of us wanted to be a d*ck and b*tch about his fry's. So all of sudden the SES light flashed real quick, enough that i saw it in the corner of my eye and boom. The engine quit running. It started up but it didn't wanna run right. As soon as it cooled down it acted fine. My question being....what kinda damage could be done? I was planing on doing a cam swap and rebuild the engine. While i was at it i was going to check out the wireing under the hood, etc but i'm kind of worried now because of last night. Any help is a relief and much appreciated guys.

My car had been overheated before I got it. One night it got running hot and quit running. A couple hours later I started it up and it ran fine. The next morning I go start it up and there is some serious banging coming from the valve-train. I had it checked out and one of my valve guides had slipped out of the head and gotten stuck. While it was apart we realized the heads had little cracks in them. All this was caused from overheating. Not to worry you, just a little tale.
