cooling problems...

my car never runs cool anymore and i never get to use my a/c my main concern is to get my car to run cool not to use my a/c ... My question is can i take the piece of the a/c that sits in front of the radiator off no problem? sorry for my stupidity another night another 6 pack.. do i need to take the car in and have the r-12 taken out? and will it help my car to run cooler since there will be less to block air from getting to the radiator...

Yes, you could help your cooling by removing the AC condensor...but there is probably other reasons why your car is not running cool. I wouldnt go tearing out the AC (ESPECIALLY in Phx), just to get the car to run cool.

If you run hot while driving: Is your lower air dam intact? If it is missing or "bent" back, not enough airflow will be directed up to the radiator. Camaros and Firebirds do not have the largest grill areas, so are actually "bottom breathers" and need the lower air dam to get enough air flow while moving. Also...in the desert heat on the freeway, it is a good idea not to tailgate the person in front of you ..... it's a sure way to overheat in traffic.

If you run hot just idling (not moving): Is your fan working? Do you have single or dual fans? What thermostat are you running? When is the last time you flushed your system? You could do a couple things here, but basic maintenance usually fixes things. If you still run hot, you could go to a dual fan setup, a lower temp thermostat, add oil and tranny coolers, or any combination of the above.
