temp gauge reading wrong?

here it is i have a 86' iroc with a 350 tpi motor, my fan cuts on in my car when the gauge reads about 260 but i don't think it gets that hot. i put one of those temp guns on the water neck and it got a little over 240 and running down the road the the gauge reads aound 260 and it really bothers me. the only thing that hasn't been replaced is the water pump. it seems like the heads are heating up and the intake is saying around the temp it needs to be. if anyone has any solutions please help.

Thanks,

David

I would try an aftermarlet guage, one that goes into the head. The water nect temprature is not accurate enough to judge.
