Installing Jet Fan Switch???

I recently installed a Jet fan switch on my '87 Iroc TPI, however, after reading some posts on the boards I think I might have put it in the wrong location. Looking from the front of the car at the engine compartment I installed it on the drivers side between spark plugs-I think plugs 1 and 3. The Jet fan switch screwed right in; the wire going to the unit is dark green. I've recently heard the location of the fan switch is to the rear of the engine compartment ( passenger side) at plugs 6 and 8. If I got the wrong location, what was it that I took out and replaced?

You heard right, the fan switch in betwenn cylinders 6 and 8 on the passenger side. I'm sure that your temp guage wouldn't work cause you took out the sending unit on the drivers side instead

Here's a picture of my jet-fan switch installed on the passenger side of the engine. I don't know what that other sender unit is you're describing, I thought it could be the Knock sensor but that's also on the passenger side at least it is on my 91 RS.

Here's a picture of the Knock sensor, also on the passenger side on the lower part of the block.

The guage that he mistakingly took out was the Temp guage sending unit.

Tom is correct. I put the sensor I took out back in but now my gauge doesn't work, guess I broke the cooling sensor somehow. Gonna buy a new one from Nappa for about $15.00. Live and learn I guess; thanks for your responses.

I looked at my engine to where the fan switch is supposed to go as GKK's photo suggested(thanks for the photo). However, it seems absolutely impossible to get to it from up top. Can I get to it from below and how long does it normally take to install? Thanks

I first installed mine about 4 years ago and if I remember correctly, I think I did put it in from the bottom. Just be careful that you don't get a face full of coolant when you do it

When i replaced my fan switch it took me and my grandfather about 45 minutes, we had to jack the passangers side up and then find the right tool to get to it. After all that we took the old one out and let the coolant drain out. After it stoped just install the new one with teflon tape. It would of took less time but i had to rewire another connector (the old one was burnt some how). After splicing and soldering and taping i hooked up the connector to the switch and i was done with that job. Just dont forget to add more coolant when you done.
