Rewired fan....messed up fuel pump?

Yesterday I tried wiring my fan to run with the ignition on. A friend told me to tap into the green and white wire which runs into the fan relay, and run that wire to a toggle switch. I also ran a ground wire to the other end of the toggle. Well heres the problem, after doing that my car doesn't want to start! I don't think the fuel pump is kickin in. I tried repalcing the fuel pump relay, but that didn't help. If you continue to crank the car, it will eventually start and run fine. I think this is because it will eventually bypass the relay and run the pump off the oil pressure switch, but why didn't the new relay work? I think I really screwed something up.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? What should I try.

My uncle said I might have tapped the fuel pump relay instead of the fan, but I used the one it showed in my locator manual.

If I did tap into the wrong one, what could that have done?

Sounds like you got the wrong relay. I had that problem, on mine (91) there were 3 relays, the one that was supposed to be the fuel pump was actually the fan. Someone had just moved them or they were installed differnt than the book said.

hey jimbuck

You said that you had that same problem, but did yours mess up the fuel pump priming like mine? If so what did you do to fix it? I think mine is the ECM. I've tried the relay but its not getting current from the ECM.
