Any ideas to have the fan come on with the ignition key ?
i have mine fan cnnected to a universal12v relay and that burnsout every 4-5 months and is thereany oter way i can hook this up nice and safe i just dont want to be intraffic when the relay goes
I have mine mounted on an in-dash 30Amp switch. I've had it like that for 4 years without a problem. For it to come on with the ign. There is a spot of the fuse block that says ign. You can put a male spade connector in there and run that to the hot side of the fan. Done. Just remember to put a 20-30 amp inline fuse in the wire. I didn't do that on my first try, melted the switch and then the wire caught on fire. Luckily it burned in two before anything else caught.
I am also trying to troubleshoot my cooling system and have been looking over the wiring diagram in my haynes manual and what I found out is this 1) my fan relays appear to be toast so I disconnected BOTH of them 2) after looking at the wiring diagram I noticed that the thin brown wire going to the relay is HOT DURING RUN so I jammed a wire in the matching slot in the connector on the other side and jumped it over to the thick black wire withe the pink stripe (which is the fan +). PRESTO the fan will come on with the ignition switch. Granted, it probably wont have as much current going to the fans to run them at max rpm BUT the fan WILL run and keep your car cool. And all it takes is a 2" piece of wire. I did this w/ both my fans till I get time to figure the whole system out.
My left side fan comes on at start up and stays on until I go over 30 mph. I am using a 180 deg themo and a Fastchip Stage 2
Chip. This works for me with slow intown trafic and no switch
to worry about.

Relay gave problems on my RS, mechanic straight wired the fan so it runs all the time if the key is in the "on" position. End up replacing fan motors about every 15-24 months. Car runs cooler and is sometimes hard to get hot enough to pass sniffer test.
